Palace are yet to issue an update on the 76-year-old's health since confirming he was 'stable and undergoing tests'.

Prior to his illness, talkSPORT understands the Eagles had agreed a deal for Oliver Glasner to replace Hodgson in south London.

Eintracht Frankfurt boss Glasner was spotted at upcoming Palace opponent Tottenham's 2-1 Premier League loss to Wolves on Saturday - but it is yet to be confirmed when he will take charge.

The 2022 Europa League-winning manager's services could be announced after tonight's game, but until then, Palace will need interim help to cope with Hodgson's absence.

The pair oversaw Palace's 3-1 away defeat to Aston Villa in September when a previous illness landed Hodgson in hospital.

Former Palace defender McCarthy's only other game in charge of the club came in a 4-1 loss away to Arsenal following Patrick Vieira's sacking.

Lewington has long-been Hodgson's right-hand man having worked together at Fulham, England and both Palace spells.
