The Portugal international was unavailable for the 1-1 Europa League draw with Fenerbahce in midweek, where right-back Noussair Mazraoui was bizarrely given the nod in the number 10 slot.
However, Fernandes will no doubt kick the Moroccan out of the advanced role on Sunday, where Ten Hag is also hoping that veteran defender Jonny Evans will be able to return from a knock, but Kobbie Mainoo (thigh), Leny Yoro (ankle), Harry Maguire (calf), Luke Shaw (calf), Tyrell Malacia (knee) and Mason Mount (knock) remain unavailable.
Fernandes coming back in should be one of two changes to the attacking setup from midweek, as Rasmus Hojlund - the match-winner against Brentford last weekend - should also join Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford up front.
Manuel Ugarte earned his stars in midweek with a fabulous goal-line block to ensure that Man United came away with a point, but a well-rested Casemiro is likely to replace the Uruguayan alongside Christian Eriksen.
Ten Hag has some big calls to make at the back, where Evans has put in some terrific displays of late and should start alongside Matthijs de Ligt in front of Andre Onana if fit.
Diogo Dalot may be the man sacrificed if Evans comes back into the fold, as Mazraoui reverts to right-back duties while Lisandro Martinez starts on the left-hand side.
Manchester United possible starting lineup:
Onana; Mazraoui, De Ligt, Evans, Martinez; Eriksen, Casemiro; Rashford, Fernandes, Garnacho; Hojlund
