Wednesday's Major League Soccer predictions including Chicago Fire vs. Inter Miami

sportsmole.co.uk, 4 October 2023, 05:10
Charlotte FC vs. Toronto (Thursday, 12.30am)

Charlotte FC can end a lengthy winless run and get themselves back into the MLS playoff picture when they host Toronto on Wednesday at Bank of America Stadium.

The Crown were beaten 2-1 by the New England Revolution over the weekend, extending their domestic winless run to six matches, while TFC lost 3-2 at home to FC Cincinnati.

We say: Charlotte FC 2-0 Toronto

As poor as Charlotte have been of late, they should be able to find the mark against a Toronto side that give their opponents an ample amount of scoring opportunities.

It feels like many of the Reds' players are already looking ahead to next season, while the Crown still have an outside shot at the playoffs, which should give them extra motivation for this one.

Cincinnati vs. NY Red Bulls (Thursday, 12.30am)

The TQL Stadium will be in a celebratory mood on Wednesday night when Supporters' Shield champions FC Cincinnati host a playoff-chasing New York Red Bulls in MLS.

The Orange and Blue secured their first-ever trophy with a dramatic win across the border against Toronto on the weekend, while the Red Bulls' top-nine hopes took a hit after they lost to Chicago Fire on home soil.

We say: FC Cincinnati 2-0 New York Red Bulls

Cincinnati have already clinched the Supporters' Shield, but we are not expecting a drop in performances levels as members of the squad attempt to impress Noonan in order to start in the playoffs.

New York Red Bulls face a tough trio of fixtures as they attempt to sneak into the top nine of the Eastern Conference, and we feel their efforts will be unrewarded at TQL Field on Wednesday.

Montreal vs. Houston (Thursday, 12.30am)

The Eastern Conference's CF Montreal welcome the Western Conference's Houston Dynamo to the Saputo Stadium for a huge game in MLS on Wednesday night.

Both clubs are in the hunt for playoff places, but are not over the line yet with just three games to go.

We say: CF Montreal 1-2 Houston Dynamo

It is usually very good or very poor with Montreal, with their 11 wins and 16 defeats from 31 MLS games this season, but with the pressure on against tough opposition, this could be a struggle.

The post-cup-win hangover can be forgiven after an uneventful draw at the weekend, but Houston could well return to winning ways here.

New England vs. Columbus Crew (Thursday, 12.30am)

Two of the Major League Soccer Eastern Conference's strongest teams will meet on Thursday when Columbus Crew will make the trip to face New England Revolution.

The hosts currently sit third in the table with the visitors just two points behind them, with both teams aiming to push further up the division.

We say: New England Revolution 2-1 Columbus Crew

New England Revolution have the chance to kick on further in the division this weekend, and that alone could lead to them taking all three points.

While the visitors are having no problem in finding the back of the net this season, their poor away form generally could be a sticking point.

Philadelphia vs. Atlanta (Thursday, 12.30am)

Philadelphia Union take on Atlanta United at Subaru Park on Wednesday evening in the latest round of MLS fixtures.

With three games left to play of the regular season, the hosts are fourth in the Eastern Conference, while the visitors are down in sixth place.

We say: Philadelphia Union 1-1 Atlanta United

Philadelphia Union have drawn their last five MLS games, and the spoils have been shared in each of Atlanta United's last two away matches.

Given that the two sides are separated by just two points in the table, they are clearly evenly-matched, and we expect a draw this Wednesday.

Austin vs. DC United (Thursday, 1.30am)

Austin FC will be looking to keep their faint playoff dreams alive on Wednesday night when they welcome DC United to Q2 Stadium in the closing stages of the MLS regular season.

The hosts are six points off the playoff zone with three matches left to play, whilst DC United are hot on the heels of the top nine in the Eastern Conference.

We say: Austin FC 1-1 DC United

Austin have been one of the poorest sides in MLS since the league resumed following the Leagues Cup break, and there will be immense pressure on an Oaks side without Zardes and Sebastian Driussi to find a way to keep their top-nine hopes alive.

DC United have picked up draws during their two most recent MLS outings, and we are expecting Rooney's men to do the same on Wednesday night to essentially end Austin's playoff aims.

Chicago Fire vs. Inter Miami (Thursday, 1.30am)

Chicago Fire and Inter Miami will both be hoping to boost their aspirations of qualifying for the playoffs when they meet each other in the MLS on Thursday.

Chicago head into the encounter four points ahead of their opponents, although Inter Miami do possess a game in hand on them.

We say: Chicago Fire 1-2 Inter Miami

With time running out for them to rescue a playoff spot, Inter Miami will be desperate to get Messi back onto the pitch as soon as possible, but it may be from the bench at best in this match.

Despite winning their last match, Chicago were fortunate to benefit from a red card for their opponents, and we can envisage Inter Miami returning to winning ways themselves in midweek.

Dallas vs. Colorado (Thursday, 1.30am)

Dallas will look to move a step closer to securing their place in the MLS playoffs when they face Colorado Rapids on Wednesday.

While the hosts are hoping to maintain their spot in the top nine, Colorado are sitting at the foot of the Western Conference and only have pride to play for.

We say: Dallas 2-1 Colorado Rapids

After drawing their last three matches, we think Dallas will return to winning ways against a Colorado side who have lost 10 consecutive away games in all competitions.

Nashville vs. Orlando City (Thursday, 1.30am)

Nashville SC and Orlando City will both be aiming to cement their gap within the playoff positions when they meet in the MLS on Thursday.

Nashville have drawn their last two matches, while Orlando returned to winning ways last time out.

We say: Nashville SC 1-1 Orlando City

Nashville have proven themselves to be the most stubborn team to break down across the MLS as a whole so far this season, and we expect that to continue on Thursday.

Orlando clearly have the more talented attackers and cohesive offensive play, though, and this should help them earn a share of the spoils.

Los Angeles vs. Minnesota Utd (Thursday, 3.30am)

Two teams currently on a tough run of results will go head to head at the BMO Stadium on Thursday when Los Angeles FC play host to Minnesota United.

The home side have won just one of their last eight matches across all competitions, while the visitors are winless in six consecutive games.

We say: Los Angeles FC 2-1 Minnesota United

Los Angeles have failed to score in each of their last four matches but we can see them finding the back of the net against a Minnesota side who have not kept a clean sheet in their last six outings. We are also tipping the home side to carry the day come the sound of the final whistle.

Seattle vs. LA Galaxy (Thursday, 3.30am)

Los Angeles Galaxy will look to keep their lingering playoff hopes alive when they travel to Lumen Field to face Seattle Sounders on Wednesday.

The Sounders, meanwhile, head into their final three games in third place in the Western Conference after collecting 46 points from their 31 MLS matches.

We say: Seattle Sounders 2-2 Los Angeles Galaxy

Although the Galaxy need to pick up maximum points to help their playoff bid, we think their leaky defence will be their downfall once again, and as a result, we believe the visitors will be held to a third consecutive draw.

Vancouver vs. St Louis City (Thursday, 3.30am)

The Vancouver Whitecaps can book their spot in the 2023 MLS Cup playoffs on Wednesday with a victory at BC Place Stadium versus St Louis City.

Over the weekend, the Caps played DC United to a 2-2 draw, moving them five points above the playoff line, while St Louis officially clinched first place in the Western Conference with a 4-1 win over Sporting Kansas City.
