Transfer news live - Man Utd receive Rice boost and Arsenal move ahead for Isak

mirror.co.uk, 5 January 2022, 01:44
Man Utd and Arsenal could both see players leave in the coming weeks as they deal with internal issues whilst Romelu Lukaku has issued an apology for a recent interview

The January transfer window is hotting up and could see a move which has seemed in the works for a while.

Kieran Trippier is edging towards an English return with Newcastle, who are close to signing the Atletico Madrid right-back.

Liverpool are not expected to make any moves this month despite losing several star players to the Africa Cup of Nations.

Manchester United and Arsenal could both be busy however, as several players are linked with the exit door.

The Red Devils continue to deceive under Ralf Rangnick, who is working with a big squad and stars like Donny van de Beek are weighing up their options.

Arsenal meanwhile may look to get Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang off their books and will reportedly listen to offers for the striker.

Chelsea have seen Romelu Lukaku apologise publicly after giving an interview which appeared to suggest he was keen on an early move away.

We'll keep you up to date throughout the day with all the major moves and rumours.

Coutinho lands other interest as Arsenal stall

Five clubs have asked about the transfer of Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona following Arsenal's failure to act on the situation.

As outlined by Diario Sport, the North London club will not countenance including a compulsory purchase option on any loan deal for Coutinho - while any deal would see Arsenal not shell out for the player's wage in full.

Arsenal are claimed to be frontrunners for Coutinho's signature but they have set conditions for any potential deal that may scupper any agreement.

Cadena Ser radio station have added that Newcastle United - unsurprisingly, following their Saudi Arabian-backed takeover - have also expressed an interest in the player.

There are three other Premier League clubs who have also been approached by the player's representatives, who are keen to facilitate a transfer this month.

Everton, Leicester and Tottenham have all been contacted, with each of those clubs previously expressing an interest in the player.

Man Utd receive Declan Rice transfer boost as Ralf Rangnick faces summer exodus

Manchester United have received a major boost in their attempt to solve their midfield woes by signing West Ham star Declan Rice.

The Red Devils solved several of their issues over the summer by signing five-time Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo, four-time Champions League winner Raphael Varane and exciting young winger Jadon Sancho.

However, they weren't able to acquire the services of a holding midfielder and thus Ole Gunnar Solskjaer paid the price for it by being shown the door after a dreadful run of form.

Short-term interim boss Ralf Rangnick has reportedly made it his priority to not allow his successor to suffer the same fate next season.
