Transfer news and rumours: Summerville to West Ham, Abraham to Everton, Ayew future

sportsmole.co.uk, 1 August 2024, 09:43
The Crysencio Summerville transfer saga is reportedly nearing its conclusion, as West Ham United are thought to be close to completing a deal for the Leeds United winger.

The 22-year-old could hardly have done more to propel Leeds back into the Premier League at the first time of asking last season, scoring 20 goals and providing nine assists in 46 Championship matches.

However, the Whites suffered playoff agony at the hands of Southampton in the final, leading to the expectation that Summerville - who is now in the last two years of his contract - would depart.

Chelsea and Liverpool were previously linked with a move for Summerville, but according to BBC Sport, West Ham are now close to bringing him to the London Stadium.

The report states that negotiations have now reached an advanced stage, and Julen Lopetegui's side should not run into any problems agreeing personal terms with Summerville either.

The Dutchman will leave Elland Road with a record of 25 goals and 12 assists in 89 matches for the Whites, who will make a significant profit on the £1.3m they paid Feyenoord for his services in 2020.

Everton ask for 'information' on ex-Chelsea striker

Speaking of players potentially making returns to the Premier League, Everton have apparently shown an interest in signing erstwhile Chelsea striker and current Roma man Tammy Abraham.

The 26-year-old enjoyed a brief period of success at Chelsea with 15 goals in the 2019-20 Premier League season, but he failed to make the grade under Thomas Tuchel.

Abraham quickly found form with Roma, scoring 27 goals in the 2021-22 season as the Italian giants won the Europa Conference League, but he has since been bedevilled by a serious cruciate ligament injury.

Now in the last two years of his deal with the Giallorossi, journalist Gianluigi Longari reports that Everton have asked for information on the former Aston Villa attacker.

Abraham has long been linked with a move back to English football after his downturn in fortunes in Italy, having been restricted to a mere 12 appearances for Roma in 2023-24.

However, the Englishman is believed to favour a move to AC Milan, although Paulo Fonseca's side - who have already signed Alvaro Morata this summer - are yet to agree a fee with Roma.

Leicester City 'make formal approach' for Crystal Palace man

Sticking with the attacking theme, Jordan Ayew's lengthy association with Crystal Palace could soon come to an end, as Leicester City have supposedly approached the Eagles over a transfer for the Ghana international.

Ayew has been a mainstay of the Palace frontline since his initial loan move from Swansea City in the summer of 2018, which was made permanent for £2.4m a year later.

The 32-year-old has come up with 23 goals and 22 assists in 211 matches for Palace in that time and posted his best playmaking numbers last season, setting up seven goals in 35 Premier League matches.

However, Ayew's deal now has under 12 months left to run, and according to the Evening Standard, Leicester are looking to bring him to the King Power Stadium for their top-flight return.

The Foxes are said to have already made an official approach for the Ghanaian attacker, and Palace are happy to let Ayew leave for the right price given his contract situation.

The Eagles have already lost Michael Olise to Bayern Munich this summer, but Daichi Kamada has arrived from Eintracht Frankfurt, and the club are also thought to be close to an agreement for Marseille's Ismaila Sarr.

Wolverhampton Wanderers, Fulham 'battling' for 6ft 8in defender

At the other end of the field, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Fulham are reportedly rivalling one another for the signature of a 21-year-old defender who suffered a crushing relegation last season.

Lorient's Isaak Toure shone in his debut season with Les Merlus after leaving Marseille in 2023, playing 24 Ligue 1 matches and contributing one goal and one assist in the process.

Despite thrashing Clermont 5-0 on the final day and miraculously making up their inferior goal difference to Metz, Lorient still finished in the bottom two on account of their lower head-to-head away goals tally versus Metz.

Now, Football Insider claims that Lorient are prepared to let Toure leave on account of their demotion, and both Wolves and Fulham are pushing to bring him to England's top flight.

While the French second-tier side initially valued the towering 6ft 8in defender at £25m, they are supposedly prepared to accept a fee in the region of £15m, which would still represent a profit on the £6.8m they paid to bring him to the Stade du Moustoir in 2023.

Wolves and Fulham have both lost key defensive figures this summer, with Max Kilman joining West Ham United from the former and Tosin Adarabioyo leaving Fulham on a free transfer to sign for Chelsea.
