The Red Devils will be looking for a permanent man to take charge at Old Trafford before the beginning of next season and the Ajax boss could be the man to take the hot seat.
Ralf Rangnick has currently taken charge of the club on an interim basis before he takes up a 'consultancy' role at the end of the season.
Whilst he did not rule out becoming the manager on a permanent basis, Man United could be swayed to go for Ten Hag, especially after his latest comments.
"I think I'm ready for it (coaching abroad). I would be happy to take on that challenge," the Ajax boss told de Volkskrant.
"But I'm not chasing it. If it turns out that that step will never come, I will not say that my coaching career has failed.
"But I think I have enough competences to take on that challenge."
Should Man United move in for Ten Hag, it could spell a very exciting time for the club given what he has achieved for Ajax so far.
Since his appointment in December 2017, the 51-year-old has guided the club to two league titles and two cup successes.
He was also in charge for Ajax's memorable run to the semi-finals of the Champions League in the 2018/19 and brought through Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt who are now both at Barcelona and Juventus respectively.
