Sunday's Premier League predictions including Manchester City vs. West Ham United

sportsmole.co.uk, 19 May 2024, 05:00
Arsenal vs. Everton (Sunday, 4.00pm)

A glistening Premier League trophy will be ready and waiting at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, where victory for Arsenal over Everton could propel the Gunners to top-flight supremacy.

However, Mikel Arteta's men are relying on Manchester City to drop points against West Ham United, so some Gooners have already resigned their squad to another second-placed finish.

We say: Arsenal 3-0 Everton

Everton's praiseworthy performances at Goodison Park have not translated into prowess on their travels, and Dyche's crop should put up little resistance against an Arsenal side destined to hit the 89-point mark.

A routine end-of-season victory should come the Gunners' way in front of their own fans, albeit one that is unlikely to be enough to forestall Man City's four-in-a-row.

Brentford vs. Newcastle (Sunday, 4.00pm)

Aiming to secure their spot on the continental stage next season, Newcastle United will make the journey on Sunday afternoon to the Gtech Community Stadium, where Brentford will await for a final-day clash in the Premier League.

The Magpies' hopes of qualifying for Europe were dealt a major blow at Old Trafford by Manchester United on Wednesday, whilst the Bees will be looking to build on a last-gasp success at Bournemouth last time out.

We say: Brentford 1-3 Newcastle United

Comparing the necessity of victory for both teams, we are expecting Newcastle to be on the front foot as they look to earn three points that could propel them onto the continental stage next term.

Brentford have been solid at the Gtech over the past month, but we feel that the Bees' clean sheet run in the capital will come to an end on Sunday afternoon.

Brighton vs. Man Utd (Sunday, 4.00pm)

The curtains will come down on an underwhelming 2023-24 Premier League campaign for Manchester United when they travel to the Amex Stadium to face Brighton & Hove Albion in their final top-flight fixture on Sunday afternoon.

While the Red Devils still have an outside chance of qualifying for Europe, the Seagulls are seeking to avoid slipping into the bottom half of the table.

We say: Brighton & Hove Albion 2-2 Manchester United

Both teams have struggled for consistency heading down the home straight and have both looked vulnerable at the back, so an end-to-end contest with plenty of goalmouth action could be on the cards this weekend.

There is more riding on this fixture for Conference League-chasing Man United, but their recent record against the Seagulls leaves little to be desired and we can see the hosts frustrating the Red Devils to claim a share of the spoils.

Burnley vs. Nott'm Forest (Sunday, 4.00pm)

Requiring just a point to guarantee Premier League survival, Nottingham Forest head to Turf Moor to lock horns with already-relegated Burnley on Sunday afternoon.

The Tricky Trees failed to secure their safety last weekend due to a thrilling climax in a 3-2 loss to Chelsea, while their hosts' demotion was confirmed in a 2-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

We say: Burnley 1-2 Nottingham Forest

A Burnley side only playing for their own honour could be a dangerous proposition or more straightforward test for Forest, whose superior quality in the final third should carry them over the line either way.

Learning their lessons from last weekend, we have faith in Santo's side to maintain a one-goal advantage this time around to ensure their place in the big time for 2024-25, while consigning Luton to their fate alongside their other two promotees.

Chelsea vs. Bournemouth (Sunday, 4.00pm)

Chelsea will endeavour to end the 2023-24 campaign on a high by qualifying for European competition when they welcome Bournemouth to Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.

While the Blues are bidding to secure at least a top-six finish, the Cherries are one of a number of teams seeking to climb into the top half of the table.

We say: Chelsea 2-1 Bournemouth

Neither side could be separated when they played out a goalless stalemate in the reverse fixture earlier this season and another closely-fought contest could be in store on Sunday, although Chelsea will be regarded as favourites.

Bournemouth have the credentials to cause the Blues a few problems going forward, but Pochettino's side have looked strong on home soil in recent weeks and we believe they will find a way to come out on top.

Crystal Palace vs. Aston Villa (Sunday, 4.00pm)

Looking to continue their marvellous vein of form and finish inside the top half of the league standings, Crystal Palace will welcome Champions League-bound Aston Villa to Selhurst Park on the final day of the Premier League season.

The Eagles head into this campaign closer following a 3-1 win at Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend, whilst the Villans fought back to earn a dramatic point versus Liverpool on Monday night in the Second City.

We say: Crystal Palace 3-1 Aston Villa

Crystal Palace have won each of their last three home matches by an aggregate score of 11-2, meaning that it is difficult to look past the in-form Eagles for victory on Sunday afternoon.

Villa's away form is significantly poorer than their record at home, and with Champions League football already secured, we can envisage the visitors slumping to a final-day defeat in the capital.

Liverpool vs. Wolves (Sunday, 4.00pm)

For the final time as Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp will address the adoring Kop and listen to You'll Never Walk Alone inside the Anfield walls on Sunday, when Wolverhampton Wanderers bid to spoil his Premier League farewell parade.

In a match with nothing significant on the line for both clubs, all focus will be on the departing German as he oversees just 90 more minutes of football in a Liverpool tracksuit.

We say: Liverpool 2-0 Wolverhampton Wanderers

Neither Liverpool nor Wolves have been ending the season as they mean to go on, but not since 1989 have the Reds lost at Anfield in their final game of the season, and that trend should not be bucked here.

The hosts may not be such a tough nut to crack at the back anymore, but facing a confidence-sapped Wolves side is a recipe for a 299th and final victory for Klopp before the tributes begin.

Luton vs. Fulham (Sunday, 4.00pm)

Luton Town play host to Fulham on Sunday afternoon knowing that only one of their biggest wins in their history will give them any chance of Premier League survival.

At a time when the Hatters are realistically merely playing for pride, Fulham make the trip to Kenilworth Road still with the hope of finishing in 12th position in the standings.

We say: Luton Town 2-2 Fulham

In reality, this is a dead-rubber, and that should lead to an entertaining clash between two clubs eager to end the season on a high. We can only see goals in this contest, but the spoils could be shared after an end-to-end game.

Man City vs. West Ham (Sunday, 4.00pm)

For just the third time in the last 11 years, the Premier League title race will be decided on the final day, with reigning champions Manchester City looking to retain their crown at home against West Ham United on Sunday afternoon.

Pep Guardiola's men are just 90 minutes away from a slice of English football history, but the Hammers will endeavour to spoil their Etihad party in a contest that will mark David Moyes's swansong.

We say: Manchester City 4-1 West Ham United

Considering the relentless nature of Man City's performances since the turn of the year, particularly in the last few weeks, it is difficult to back against them claiming all three points on Sunday. The Citizens are known to make life difficult for themselves, though, and West Ham cannot be written off entirely.

Indeed, the Hammers pose a threat on the counter-attack with the likes of Bowen and Kudus, but their defensive record has been woeful to say the least, keeping just one clean sheet in their last 23 games. In front of a fired-up Etihad crowd, Man City should have the quality to outscore their opponents en route to securing another Premier League title.

Sheff Utd vs. Spurs (Sunday, 4.00pm)

Requiring just a single point to ensure a fifth-placed finish, Tottenham Hotspur conclude their topsy-turvy Premier League campaign away to Sheffield United on Sunday afternoon.

Ange Postecoglou cut a seething figure after the Lilywhites went down 2-0 to Manchester City in midweek, while the Blades most recently suffered a 1-0 loss at Everton.

We say: Sheffield United 1-3 Tottenham Hotspur

Postecoglou's ranting and raving in midweek may have been directed more towards the Tottenham fans rather than his own squad, but it should certainly serve as a wake-up call to the Australian's out-of-sorts players, who are never convincing in and around their own penalty area.

However, facing the worst defensive side that the Premier League has ever seen is a recipe for success for Tottenham's attackers, who should click straight back into gear and rubber-stamp a fifth-placed finish.
