Sunday's Eredivisie predictions including PSV Eindhoven vs. Feyenoord

sportsmole.co.uk, 22 December 2024, 06:25
Sparta vs. Ajax (Sunday, 11.15am)

Ajax will be looking to end the year on a high when they travel to Sparta-Stadion Het Kasteel to take on a stuttering Sparta Rotterdam in the Eredivisie on Sunday.

These two will head into the New Year with contrasting ambitions, with the visitors aiming to secure a spot in Europe while the hosts will be hoping to avoid the drop.

We say: Sparta Rotterdam 1-2 Ajax

Sparta Rotterdam have been very poor this season, particularly on their home patch, where they have not won a single league game this term and are now at risk of a fourth loss in succession.

Ajax, on the other hand, have lost only one of their last seven on the road, and we feel they will improve that record with another victory in this one.

Utrecht vs. Sittard (Sunday, 1.30pm)

FC Utrecht play host to Fortuna Sittard on Sunday afternoon looking for the win that will see them retain at least third place in the Eredivisie table.

Meanwhile, Sittard head into this fixture with the opportunity to solidify a top-eight position in the standings.

We say: FC Utrecht 3-0 Fortuna Sittard

With both teams holding three-match undefeated runs in the league, this may not necessarily be a routine win for the home side. However, it is the way that we see things materialising, Utrecht taking another step towards potential European qualification for 2025-26.

PSV vs. Feyenoord (Sunday, 1.30pm)

The headline fixture in the final weekend of 2024 in the Eredivisie will come from Philips Stadion, where PSV Eindhoven will be playing host to Feyenoord on Sunday afternoon.

PSV will enter the Christmas break at the top of the league standings but a defeat here could see them holding just a three-point lead when they return for the second half of the campaign.

We say: PSV Eindhoven 2-2 Feyenoord

This is a tricky situation for Feyenoord, as a win here could blow the title race wide open, but throwing caution to the wind could prove costly if they lose, as it would see them end the year 10 points behind the defending champions.

Still, the visitors do have a slight psychological advantage having won the Super Cup against this opponent at the start of the season, and we feel that with the form they are in, they may just be able to take something from this one.

Willem II vs. Nijmegen (Sunday, 3.45pm)

Matchday 17 of the 2024-25 Eredivisie season concludes with a meeting between Willem II and NEC at the Koning Willem II Stadion on Sunday evening.

There is little to choose between the teams currently separated by just two points in the league table, and this weekend's clash in Tilburg could easily swing either way.

We say: Willem II 1-1 NEC

Both sides could really do with all three points following some disappointing results of late, but we are backing a share of the spoils with honours even at the end of the 90 minutes.
