And the ex-Cardiff striker has also stated that he doesn't believe the Chelsea winger's style of play compliments skipper Harry Kane.

But Bothroyd, who earned his solitary Three Lions cap against France in 2010, has stated that his form hasn't been good enough to warrant a starting spot in Qatar.
Speaking on Kick Off, Bothroyd said about Sterling: "I really like him, I think he's had a fantastic career, I think he's great for English football.
"He's had a lot of adversity in his career and he's always come out and risen to the top again.
"But, if I'm being honest with you, I always say that players are in form should go to the competitions and start.

"That's my personal opinion - he should definitely be in the squad - that goes without saying.
"But if you said to me today based upon his performances this season and his form this season, I wouldn't personally start him."
He continued: "It's not all about goals. Your overall performance has to be on point especially at that level."
After Kick Off co-host and journalist Darren Lewis stated Sterling would be in his starting XI, as the forward was England's best player at Euro 2020, Bothroyd remarked: "In football, you have to update your resume.

"You should never be chosen based upon your past performances. Otherwise, [Harry] Maguire would be starting in the World Cup."
Bothroyd added: "This year, Sterling has got three goals and an assist. He's had 11 starts, he's been subbed off six times. That shows he's not playing well for his club.
"We're talking about of the best wingers this country has ever produced and I love Sterling as a player, but right now, based upon his form, he can't be starting for England at the World Cup."

And Bothroyd, who was in the youth ranks at Arsenal before he joined Coventry in 2000, has claimed Sterling forces Kane to drop back.
He added: "And to be honest, do you know what I think as well? I think Harry Kane suffers because of people like Sterling and other wingers.
"Honestly I do! Because they cut inside, people are not putting balls in the box, Harry Kane ends up coming deep."
