That's according to talkSPORT pundit Trevor Sinclair, who also claims reported potential replacement Brendan Rodgers is not good enough for the top job at Old Trafford.
Speculation over Solskjaer's future as Man United boss is increasing with the club's board reportedly losing faith in him.
One name who has repeatedly been suggested as the Norwegian's replacement is Leicester City boss Rodgers.
Since coming in as caretaker manager in December 2018, before being made permanent in March 2019, Solskjaer has had a mixed time at Old Trafford.
The club legend has had the hard task of rebuilding the club after years of success following Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement in 2013.
Whilst he has done a good job in clearing out a lot of the deadwood and bringing fresh faces in, the Norwegian hasn't been unable to restore United to their former glories.
This season the club were tipped to finally end their trophy drought having signed multiple Champions League winning centre-back Raphael Varane, former Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho and secured the return of Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the best players in the world.
For some reason, though, Solskjaer has been unable to inspire his players, which has led to poor results on the pitch.
With poor form and the club looking further away than ever from winning their first league title since 2013, Solskjaer's future is in doubt.
According to Manchester Evening News, the Man United hierarchy have decided they will change their manager with the only question remaining is if it will happen now or at the end of the season.
One man who has been sounded out as Solskjaer's potential replacement is former Liverpool manager Rodgers.
The Northern Irishman has enjoyed successful spell as Foxes boss since taking over at the King Power Stadium in February 2019, having helped the club win its first ever FA Cup last season and enabled them to be competitive force in the Premier League.
Rodgers has even responded to the rumours, although wasn't very happy when asked by journalists this week as he hit back at their 'disrespectful' questions about the United links.
And talkSPORT has been told the former Liverpool boss is not the right fit for the job at Old Trafford, with Sinclair insisting he needs to achieve a top four finish at the King Power first if he is to be considered a top manager.
"I was at the game last season, the last game of the season which they needed to win to get into the Champions League and. I wouldn't say they bottled it. but they didn't have the nous," the former Man City and England winger said on the talkSPORT Breakfast.
"They didn't have the nous to beat a Tottenham Hotspur side at home.
"I feel Brendan really does needs to get them in to the Champions League spots to again be regarded someone I would say is a top, top manager.
"At the moment he is not anywhere near it."
Whilst Rodgers needs to do more, according to Sinclair, it doesn't mean Solskjaer's job is any safer, according to the talkSPORT pundit.
The Red Devils travel to Vicarage Road to face former Leicester boss and current Watford manager Claudio Ranieri on Saturday, with the Hornets in need of three points as much as the visitors.
"Watford vs Manchester United, if Watford do get that win I think that could be Ole's last game," he added.
"I think that would be a step too far for the board to keep Ole."
