After being held to a draw in Saturday's Premier League clash with Newcastle United, Pep Guardiola's charges bounced back with a 4-0 victory in their second match of the 2024-25 Champions League.
Ilkay Gundogan and Phil Foden grabbed a goal apiece in the opening 15 minutes, before Erling Haaland got on the scoresheet just before the hour mark.
Haaland was later replaced by academy product James McAtee, who went on to score his first Man City goal to wrap up a successful away trip.
Guardiola's side match Ferguson's unbeaten record
The win moved Man City's tally on to four points and helped them equal a Champions League record which had been held outright by their rivals Man United.
Having gone 25 European games without defeat, the Citizens have equalled Man United's longest unbeaten run in the history of the European Cup/Champions League.
Sir Alex Ferguson's Man United set the record with a 25-game undefeated streak from September 2007 to May 2009.
That impressive run included Man United's Champions League triumph over Chelsea in 2008, before their streak ended in the 2009 final against Barcelona.
As for Man City, they have managed to match Man United's feat despite being eliminated in last season's quarter-finals by eventual winners Real Madrid.
The Citizens drew the away and home legs against Los Blancos, before they lost the subsequent penalty shootout at the Etihad Stadium.
Man City looking to eclipse Man United's undefeated streak
Incidentally, Man City's last defeat in the Champions League took place against Real Madrid in May 2022 when the Spanish side staged a dramatic comeback to win the second leg 2-1 in regulation time.
A late Rodrygo brace took the tie to extra time before Karim Benzema scored a penalty to condemn the Citizens to a 6-5 aggregate defeat in the semi-final clash.
Having matched Man United's feat, Man City will have the opportunity to claim the outright record in their next Champions League outing.
The 2022-23 Champions League winners will certainly fancy their chances of avoiding defeat when they face Sparta Prague at the Etihad Stadium on October 23.
However, their current focus will be on preparing for Saturday's Premier League home clash against a Fulham side that is unbeaten in five league games.
