Sir Alex Ferguson still terrifies former Man United star 10 years after retirement

The former England international made the move to Everton this summer on a free transfer as Dyche's first signing since becoming Toffees boss.

Dyche's reputation as a hardline coach has followed him from his playing days into management.

But it seems no one has the same fear factor as Fergie.

That is the opinion of Young, at least, who worked under the Manchester United legend for two years from 2011 to 2013 before he retired.

Speaking in the talkSPORT studio, the winger-turned-full-back opened up over his time under both coaches.

In a conversation with Alan Brazil and Gabriel Agbonlahor, Brazil asked: "Who's scarier, Fergie or Dychey?"

Young took a pause before replying: "The boss, I'd say. I can't even call him Fergie because he is still the boss.

"I said to someone the other day when he rings your phone and you see the boss ringing you…

"It's like, turn the music down, you're still scared of him when you're answering. Even now!"

Young has had an extensive career and is still going strong at 38 after joining Everton in the Premier League.

But this might be his biggest challenge yet, joining a side many have fancied to go down.

As well as United and Everton, Young moved to Italy and won Serie A with Inter Milan in 2021 with Antonio Conte.

That was before a romantic return to Aston Villa, where he played for four years before signing for United in 2011, coached by Steven Gerrard and Unai Emery.

But despite playing under so many top coaches, there is no doubt Ferguson was the best of the lot.

The Red Devils have struggled to dominate the Premier League like they did during his time in charge and have not won the league since his retirement in 2013.

Prior to that, United had won 13 league titles - all under Fergie's watch - and no other manager has come close since.

Pep Guardiola is the next best with five but it would take nearly another decade before Manchester City could overtake United's total.

But considering they have just won the treble, it is something that cannot be ruled out.
