However, former Man City man Trevor Sinclair believes HE created the Portuguese international's famous jump-and-spin after scoring in a Manchester derby in 2004.
The former England winger played for City between 2003 and 2007, scoring six goals whilst wearing sky blue.
Two of those six came in Manchester derbies - one in a 3-1 victory over United and the other in a game his side won 4-1.
But it's the 4-1 victory in March 2004 that sticks in Sinclair's memory due to his goal and the celebration that followed.
With the game poised at 2-1, the talkSPORT pundit pounced on a mistake by defender Mikael Silvestre and lifted it over the United goalkeeper.
Sinclair then describes what happened next.
When asked if he had scored in a Manchester derby, Sinclair told talkSPORT: "I did actually, thank you! It's actually when the 'Siu' celebration was created.
"I scored, just ran off, took my shirt off, I was absolutely ecstatic.
"And as I ran towards the sideline, I just spun and all the lads sort of ran into me.
"But I genuinely think that is where Ronaldo's 'Siu' celebration was born."
All Ronaldo could do was watch as his counterpart celebrated shirtless in front of the home fans and maybe, just maybe, that was where the idea for 'Siu' was born.
The 51-year-old will just be hoping that it doesn't come back to haunt him when Ronaldo returns to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday against his beloved City.
