Sergio Aguero hits back at critics and explains Eduardo Camavinga video

Former Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has rubbished claims that he targeted France midfielder Eduardo Camavinga in a celebration video after Argentina's World Cup triumph

Sergio Aguero has hit back at people who have criticised him after the former Manchester City striker called France midfielder Eduardo Camavinga a "d*** face" during Argentina's rowdy World Cup celebrations.

Aguero was watching on as Lionel Scaloni's side beat France on penalties in Sunday's showpiece final at the Lusail Stadium and joined in with the celebrations both on and off the field following the match.

However, the 34-year-old, who was forced to retire last December after doctors discovered a cardiac arrhythmia, came in for criticism online after he sang about France starlet Camavinga in a video streamed on his own personal Instagram account.

But Aguero has insisted that there is no problem between him and Camavinga - and that the song was just a "joke". He tweeted: "Hee. Let's see first I have nothing with him and Second it's a party joke. Also if you search on stream he always joked with his name. Don't look for problems pa."

Before calling time on his storied career last year, Aguero had clocked up over a century of international appearances for Argentina and was even given the opportunity to life the World Cup trophy after the match.

Aguero then hoisted Argentina talisman Lionel Messi on his shoulders as the Paris Saint-Germain superstar, who roomed with Aguero for years before his retirement, revelled in the moment.

There had been speculation that Messi, too, would retire from international duty after the tournament - regardless of the outcome.

The veteran admitted earlier in the competition that Sunday's final would "surely" be his last World Cup match, adding: "Everything I experienced in this World Cup is something very exciting, what people lived through, how people are enjoying it in Argentina... There are many years for the next one and I don't think I will be able to do that and ending this way is the best."

But the Paris Saint-Germain forward scotched rumours that he was preparing to walk away immediately by insisting that he was excited to continue playing for his country as a world champion.

Speaking after Sunday's final, an emotional Messi said: "It's simply unbelievable. I knew that God was going to give me the Cup, I was sure — it was a big joy for us.

"I had this big dream for a long time, I wanted to close my career with a World Cup. I can't ask more than this. No, I'm NOT gonna retire from the national team. I want to keep playing as World Cup champions with the Argentina shirt."
