Saturday's Major League Soccer predictions including Seattle Sounders vs. Houston Dynamo

sportsmole.co.uk, 1 July 2023, 05:10
Cincinnati vs. New England (Sunday, 12.30am)

A top-of-the-table clash in MLS sees FC Cincinnati welcome New England Revolution to the TQL Stadium on Sunday morning.

The Eastern Conference leaders are hitherto perfect on their turf, while the away side, aided by an ongoing three-game winning run, have recently supplanted Nashville to move into second.

We say: FC Cincinnati 2-1 New England Revolution

The best side in MLS are expected to make it 11 wins from 11 on home turf when they host New England due to their penchant for scoring at the TQL Stadium and tendency to give little away.

Columbus Crew vs. NY Red Bulls (Sunday, 12.30am)

Columbus Crew will aim to extend their unbeaten streak to six games when the New York Red Bulls visit Lower.com Field on Saturday.

Having dispatched Nashville SC last time out, the hosts occupy fifth place in the Eastern Conference, while the visitors find themselves eight points behind in 11th.

We say: Columbus Crew 2-0 New York Red Bulls

Of course, Columbus Crew are the leading scorers in Major League Soccer, but New York Red Bulls possess the second-best defensive record in the league.

Given that Columbus have won four of their last five matches, we expect the hosts to claim all three points at Lower.com Field, but we are not likely to see a high-scoring victory.

Inter Miami vs. Austin (Sunday, 12.30am)

Struggling Inter Miami find themselves rock bottom of the Eastern Conference as they prepare to entertain in-form Austin FC at DRV PNK Stadium on Saturday.

The hosts suffered a 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Philadelphia Union last time out, while the visitors claimed a comfortable 3-0 victory over Houston Dynamo.

We say: Inter Miami 1-3 Austin FC

While Inter Miami have lost each of their last seven MLS matches, Austin FC have won five of their previous eight, so we expect the Verde and Black to pile more pressure on lowly Miami.

Montreal vs. NY City (Sunday, 12.30am)

CF Montreal can extend their winning run at Saputo Stadium to nine matches in all competitions when they host New York City FC on Saturday.

Le CFM have not conceded in their previous three MLS affairs, drawing 0-0 at Charlotte FC last Saturday, while the Pigeons are winless in 12 successive fixtures in all competitions, drawing the Portland Timbers 1-1 in their previous encounter.

We say: CF Montreal 1-0 New York City FC

Forget how well NYCFC have played in Montreal in the past, because this is not the same Pigeons side from previous years, and the summer transfer window cannot come soon enough for this group, who have looked indecisive in the attacking third most of the season.

Montreal are at their best when playing in front of their fans, and we believe their defensive shape will be able to handle an NYCFC side that must be feeling pretty low at the moment.

Orlando City vs. Chicago Fire (Sunday, 12.30am)

Separated by five points in the MLS Eastern Conference standings, Orlando City and Chicago Fire meet at Florida's Exploria Stadium on Saturday.

Despite failing to win for three matches, the hosts still occupy a playoff place; after going five games without success, their visitors ended June with back-to-back victories.

We say: Orlando City 1-1 Chicago Fire

As Orlando have struggled to meet expectations at home this year, Chicago will fancy their chances of registering a third straight away win, to close within two points of their hosts in the Eastern Conference standings. However, they can often be caught out defensively, so a draw may have to suffice.

Toronto vs. Salt Lake (Sunday, 12.30am)

Still without an MLS away win this season after another failure last week, Toronto return to home soil on Saturday, when they host Western Conference playoff contenders Real Salt Lake.

While the home side sit second-bottom in the East and have just sacked their coach, their visitors from Utah have won four of their last six in all competitions.

We say: Toronto 1-1 Real Salt Lake

Given Salt Lake's solid form on the road, allied with Toronto having a far better record at home than away, a draw could be on the cards at BMO Field. A change of management for the hosts could also open a fresh chapter: interim boss Terry Dunfield has been given four games to make an impact and earn a permanent position.

Dallas vs. Los Angeles (Sunday, 1.30am)

Los Angeles FC will be bidding to return to winning ways in the MLS Western Conference when they travel to Dallas on Saturday night.

The visitors are currently second in the table, level on points with leaders St Louis City, while Dallas occupy seventh position, boasting 26 points from their opening 19 games of the season.

We say: Dallas 1-2 Los Angeles FC

Los Angeles will be determined to return to winning ways after the disappointment of their defeat to Vancouver, and we are backing Cherundolo's team to triumph. Dallas are certainly capable of picking up a positive result on Saturday, but we are backing the hosts just to fall short in this contest.

Kansas vs. Vancouver (Sunday, 1.30am)

As Canadians from coast-to-coast celebrate the nation's 156th birthday on Saturday, the Vancouver Whitecaps will be at Children's Mercy Park with a chance to extend their MLS unbeaten run to four matches when they battle Sporting Kansas City for the second time this year.

KC are winless in three successive games in this competition, falling 1-0 at the Chicago Fire last weekend, while the Caps picked up their first road victory of the regular season, edging past Los Angeles FC 3-2.

We say: Sporting Kansas City 1-2 Vancouver Whitecaps

The Caps seem to have found their groove as their top attacking players, namely Gauld, have stepped up in a big way, while KC have not been quite as consistent in recent outings.

Overall, Vancouver have a deeper team than Kansas City, plus they have momentum on their side right now, and when you put those two things together it is usually a solid recipe for success.

Minnesota Utd vs. Portland (Sunday, 1.30am)

Both Minnesota United and Portland Timbers will be bidding to return to winning ways when they lock horns in the MLS Western Conference on Saturday night.

Minnesota are currently 12th in the table, boasting 21 points from their opening 18 matches of the season, while Poland are 10th, one point ahead of their opponents here, having played two games more.

We say: Minnesota United 2-2 Portland Timbers

Both sides will view this match as the ideal chance to put three points on the board, and we are expecting an open and entertaining contest. A case can be made for either side to win it, but we have had to ultimately settle on a score draw here.

Nashville vs. DC United (Sunday, 1.30am)

Nashville SC look to put two uncharacteristic defeats in MLS behind them when they welcome DC United to Geodis Park on Sunday morning.

The Boys in Gold have conceded three goals in two games without getting on the scoresheet, while the visiting side returned to winning ways with a 3-0 triumph over league-leading FC Cincinnati.

We say: Nashville SC 3-0 DC United

Nashville are a different animal on their turf, and they should secure a comfortable victory over a United side that has picked up four points from an available 15 away from home.

St Louis City vs. Colorado (Sunday, 1.30am)

Top will host bottom in the MLS Western Conference on Saturday evening, with St Louis City looking to record their 11th league victory of the campaign against struggling Colorado Rapids.

St Louis are level on points with second-placed Los Angeles FC in the table, while Colorado Rapids have only picked up 14 points from 19 games this term to sit at the bottom of the division.

We say: St Louis City 1-0 Colorado Rapids

This match might not be as straightforward as it appears on paper, with Colorado better than what they have shown for much of the season. St Louis' recent form has also not exactly been terrific, but we are backing the team at the top of the division to secure a vital win on Saturday.
