From his spectacular strike from inside his own half, to his heroic tracking back to deny a certain goal before launching the ball forward for a match-winning goal, Rooney has done it all.
That even includes being completely wiped out by a brutal challenge from an opposition goalkeeper.
The stopper in question was none other than new Arsenal signing Matt Turner, who completed his move to north London in June.
United States international Turner spent six years with MLS side New England Revolution and was responsible for one of the great viral clips as he took out Rooney during a clash between DC United and Revolution.
The move started with a long, diagonal ball from a DC United defender that was played in-behind the New England defence and right into the path of Rooney.
With Rooney taking the ball down 18 yards from goal, Turner came steaming out of his area and earned a straight red card for wiping out the former England captain with a flying knee.
It was a shocking challenge that left Rooney dazed and the Everton and Manchester United legend clutching his shoulder, later admitting the collision felt like 'being in a car crash'.
It was a move that belonged in WWE, and that's obviously exactly what Sky Sports' show Soccer AM thought, too, as they dubbed over the match commentary with an audio clip from former voice of the WWE, Jim Ross - with hilarious results.
Ross' famous reaction to Mankind being thrown off a 16-foot cell by The Undertaker in 1998 has been perfectly edited into a video of Turner's foul on Rooney.
At the time, Ross screamed: "Good God all mighty, good God all mighty, that killed him!
"As God as my witness, he is broken in half! Will somebody stop the damn match? Enough is enough!"
Fortunately the legend was neither 'killed' or 'broken in half' by this clash, although he was certainly more than a little rattled.
Rooney will be hoping he might be spared such challenges now he will be in the DC United dugout, having returned to his former club as their new manager.
However, in football you can't rule anything out…
