Ronaldo surpasses new milestone as he sends five-word message after cup victory

talksport.com, 11 March 2025, 10:38
Cristiano Ronaldo has surpassed yet another incredible milestone after netting his 27th goal of the season for Al-Nassr on Monday.

The 40-year-old was on target yet again as Al-Nassr registered a comfortable 3-0 win in the Asian Champions League.

Ronaldo coolly slotted home from the penalty spot in the 27th minute against Iranian club Esteghlal Tehran to net his 927th career goal.

Whilst the Portuguese continues to post staggering numbers an even more impressive stat has come to light showing an incredible impact during the latter half of his career.

Since turning 30 in February 2015, Ronaldo has scored a whopping 464 goals, surpassing the 463 goals he registered in his teens and 20s.

Considering that much of his 20s were spent in arguably the prime of career at Manchester United and Real Madrid, Ronaldo's post-30 achievements are impressive to say the least.

His goal on Monday helped Al-Nassr book their place in the Asian Champions League quarter-finals after a goalless first-leg in the Iranian capital last week.

Former Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran was the scorer of Al-Nassr's other two goals on the night, taking his tally to six goals in eight games since his January move.

But the night belonged to Ronaldo who is showing no signs of slowing down at the ripe age of 40 and within touching distance of 1,000 career goals.

And it appears his thirst for trophies is not letting up as Al-Nassr inch closer to a possible Champions League final.

Ronaldo has led Al-Nassr to just one trophy since his arrival in January 2023, winning the Arab Club Champions Cup.

The Saudi Pro League title has evaded the Portuguese forward and that looks to again be the case this season.

However, the Champions League remains Ronaldo's best hope of landing a major trophy for the Riyadh-based side.

The former Manchester United man appears to be all in on his side's hopes of a first ever Champions League triumph.

He took to social media after Monday's success, posting a photo of himself alongside the caption: "Quarter-finals, here we come!"

Ronaldo's brilliance at club level has seen him continue his adventure with the Portuguese national team.

Having earned his first cap for the Selecao in 2003, Ronaldo is still very much part of head coach Roberto Martinez's plans with the World Cup a little over a year away.

The five time Ballon d'Or winner has amassed 217 caps for his country while scoring 135 goals making him the all-time leading scorer in men's international football.

Asked why he continues to select Ronaldo despite a wealth of young emerging talent at his disposal, Martinez told the Coaches Voice: "When I talk about a player like Cristiano Ronaldo, I also evaluate him on the basis of these three key aspects.

"His talent is indisputable; he is one of the best in the history of football. His experience is also unique: the only player to play in six European Championships and to have more than 200 international matches.

"But what stands out the most is his commitment. His passion for representing Portugal is contagious and motivates the entire team.

"He is not in the team today for what he has been, but for what he continues to be: the top scorer with 17 goals in the 21 games we have played in two years."
