Ronaldo's agent Mendes 'trying to force' Kane transfer to Man Utd

Harry Kane is again on Manchester United's transfer radar - and they are receiving a helping hand from Jorge Mendes at the other end of the deal.

Kane's future became the subject of intense speculation as he looked to leave Tottenham last summer, only to stay put. United were amongst the interested parties but splashed the cash on Jadon Sancho before landing Cristiano Ronaldo in a last-gasp move before the window shut.

According to The Athletic, former Manchester United chief Ed Woodward informed Tottenham counterpart Daniel Levy of interest in Kane last summer, but conceded a move would wait until 2022. Now that time has come, Mendes is said to be attempting to get involved by approaching centre-forwards about moving to Spurs.

The super-agent, who represents Cristiano Ronaldo, is said to have held talks with the likes of Benfica ace Darwin Nunez and Roma star Tammy Abraham as he searches for Kane's replacements. Whilst Spurs sources claim Mendes is working on his own accord, his search for replacements is seemingly an attempt to force the door open for Manchester United to pounce.

Kane is entering the final two years of his Tottenham contract having rejected an offer of a new deal last summer after Manchester City's transfer attempts. He has formed a strong bond under new coach Antonio Conte, but this summer could be Levy's last chance to cash-in for big money unless he can tie his prized asset down.

With City now in pole position to sign Erling Haaland, Manchester United could be tempted to splash the cash on their own big-money signing such as Kane, regardless of who becomes their next manager.

The idea of United playing two strikers has also been raised by Mendes' main client Ronaldo. The addition of Kane - with Mendes' help - could move that a step closer to happening.

Confronted with the possibility of a move on England duty this week, Kane refused to rule out a move. Instead, he pointed to his focus on the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

He responded: "My main focus is finishing this season, I can't control what's going to happen in the future. I want to be going into that tournament in the best form possible."
