Ronaldo reunited with Man Utd teammates for in-house debrief after talks

Cristiano Ronaldo joined his Manchester United teammates to discuss their pre-season tour before he held crunch talks with the club over his future.

The Portuguese star was the headline absentee during his side's trip to Asia and Australia as they begun life under Erik ten Hag. United's players are adapting to new methods with their Dutch coach getting stuck into work having taken over in the summer.

Ronaldo was keen to hear about their time away, reports the Mail, which was largely a success. They put four past Liverpool in their first game and also beat Melbourne Victory and Crystal Palace. A draw with Aston Villa saw Ten Hag air his frustrations, but matters have now turned to resolving Ronaldo's future.

The forward flew back to Manchester from Lisbon on Monday night with his agent Jorge Mendes as they look to discuss his future with the club's chiefs. Sir Alex Ferguson was present at Carrington for a board meeting, which coincidentally meant he could be part of the Ronaldo talks.

Ferguson was crucial in luring the No 7 back to Old Trafford last summer when rumours suggested he could join Manchester City. Now though Ronaldo wants out after a poor season that means the club will be without Champions League football.

Ronaldo is determined to engineer his exit from the club, whom he believes are currently unable to challenge for silverware. He is reluctant to see out his contract despite United maintaining that he will not be sold this summer and is expected to be part of Ten Hag's squad.

The 37-year-old was at the club's training ground for around five hours before leaving. It is less than a fortnight until the season opener against Brighton and Hove Albion and several parties are none the wiser as to where Ronaldo will be by that point.

Chelsea had been touted as an option with new owner Todd Boehly keen to make a statement signing, but Thomas Tuchel was not keen on the idea. Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid have also been linked, but the latter would be a left field choice.

Ten Hag has said previously: "We want to play in a certain way. A top player can contribute and Ronaldo is an absolute top player in our squad." He also maintained that he had no fears over Ronaldo's physical condition despite him missing pre-season.
