It was that man Cristiano Ronaldo that got his side out of jail once again when he popped up with a late equaliser against Atalanta.
It was the third consecutive Champions League game where Ronaldo has changed the result of the game.
There were plenty of question marks for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who is under pressure following some poor results and poor performances.
The Norwegian has the 36-year-old to thank, but it may just paper over the cracks.
talkSPORT host, and former Tottenham midfielder, Jamie O'Hara said: "It was a poor performance. They were shocking at the back. (Raphael) Varane went off and it made them a bit more attacking and Greenwood ended up helping United score a brilliant team goal with Ronaldo getting the finish.
"Again, in the second half Harry Maguire trying to play offside and giving away the goal again. Then it is desperation as usual again at United. That man Ronaldo steps up and scores a wonder goal out of nothing.
"This guy does things I've never seen a football player do before. Every time he needs to stand up and be counted, he scores a goal out of nowhere. He just finds a way of it falling to him. He's got the Midas touch."
His Sports Bar co-host Jason Cundy, the former Chelsea man, was damning in his criticism of Solskjaer, but gave huge praise to Ronaldo.
Cundy told talkSPORT: "He is unbelievable, a remarkable player. We know this, I'm only telling people what they already know.
"He's one of the best humans ever to put football boots on. Unbelievable.
"United are shocking. They will not get away with this.
"Everyone is waiting for this car crash. At the minute they keep getting flat tyres and keep bursting a tyre and somehow Ole keeps them going at 100mph down the motorway and manages to avoid the next car.
"That is all that is happening. It is coming, they are shocking. It's a car crash.
"I feel so sorry for Wan-Bissaka, he has no clue how to play right wing-back. He doesn't know what he's doing, he can't play there.
"He doesn't know his positional sense and doesn't know what he was doing.
"Actually, the injury to Varane helped United because he had to change it to a four.
"This is a team who haven't got a clue what they are doing, a team full of individuals that manage to find a way out of the mess and Ronaldo is the leader of that gang.
"My God, United are a mess. Truly atrocious."
Saturday's Manchester derby could be a career-defining game for Solskjaer as the Red Devils come up against a strong City side.
"City will destroy them if they play like that," Cundy added. "The same against my mob (Chelsea) in a couple of weeks. We will destroy them.
"We will because we know how to play that system and have good players and a good manager.
"Everything is off the cuff at United, even when the shape changed, you are thinking 'how is this going to work?'
"Words fail me how this talented group of players are so bad, but they get out of jail and keep squirming out of it and long may it continue."
