Richards dances, Haaland lookalike and Zinchenko emotional - Man City's title joy

talksport.com, 22 May 2022, 22:15
The party has well and truly started in the blue half of Manchester with Manchester City Premier League champions for a sixth time.

Pep Guardiola's men didn't half do things the hard way having gone 2-0 down at home to Aston Villa with Liverpool fans dreaming of nicking the title from City's grasp.

But three goals in the space of six second-half minutes saw City turn the match around and ensure they'd win a fourth league title in five years.

The scenes were jubilant at the final whistle with thousands of fans running onto the pitch to rejoice.

Of course the supporters had to make their way back to their seats to allow the trophy presentation to take place.

But the party atmosphere didn't stop there as City players and staff continued to take in the celebrations.

Former City defender Micah Richards, who was working as a pundit for Sky Sports, couldn't resist joining in, dancing to a remix of the Yaya/Kolo Toure song that was played on the Etihad's PA system.

You can bet there will be plenty of singing and dancing when the City players go out to celebrate their latest title win.

And you can certainly bet alcohol will be involved in those celebrations, with first-time Premier League champion Jack Grealish getting the brewskis in early.

Liam Gallagher, who along with brother Noel is arguably City's most famous fan, may have a couple of drinks too.

But before that, he couldn't resist having a pop at Liverpool, who finished just a point behind City.

The former Oasis frontman initially called out former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher, tweeting: "What you saying Carra, you [bell emoji] end?"

Carragher responded: "I'm saying you'll never win the Champions league and Oasis are s**** compared to the Beatles. That work??"

Gallagher later responded: "Eh Carra you got s*** banter for a scouser. F****** hell la', you been hanging out with [Gary] Neville too long.

"Oasis p*** all over the Beatles, how many times did they do Knebworth?"

Gallagher also turned his attentions to Carragher's former teammate and now Villa boss Steven Gerrard, tweeting: Gerrard can kiss my a*** as well, the Bumbaclart. His old clubs fans smash our bus up, MCFC CHAMPIONS."

Gallagher later added: "LFC nearly won the league S****bubble FC."

He then had another go at Gerrard, saying: "F*** off slippy Gerrard."

After that he aimed another dig at Liverpool, tweeting: "Scraped two cups on pens, how many strikers? W******"

But back to the celebrations on the pitch and fans who ventured down to the Etihad turf may have been double taking when seeing a man who bears a striking resemblance to Erling Haaland, who will join City in the summer.

It wasn't the Norwegian hotshot, obviously.

There was a serious side to the joy though, with the title win a particularly poignant experience for Oleksandr Zinchenko, who's played amid the harrowing events going on in his native Ukraine.

An emotional Zinchenko said after the match: "It's unforgettable emotions for me.

"For all Ukrainians, who at the moment are all starving, they are surviving in my country because of Russian aggression.

"I'm so proud to be Ukrainian and I would love to one day bring this title to Ukraine, for all the Ukrainian people because they deserve it."

However, events took a dark turn on the pitch with Villa goalkeeper Robin Olsen being assaulted on the pitch when fans ran on after the match ended.

Crowd trouble on the pitch has been an issue in matches across the country with Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp on the end of a brutal assault after their defeat at Nottingham Forest in the Championship play-offs. There were also disturbing scenes in Port Vale's win over Swindon in the League Two play-offs

Meanwhile, Patrick Vieira was filmed kicking out at an Everton fan who was in his face after the Toffees beat his Crystal Palace side.

And with the season all-but at a close, the authorities have the summer to figure out how this doesn't get further out of control next term.
