Real Madrid's 'billion euro' transfer clauses as Gini Wijnaldum gets exit offer

mirror.co.uk, 5 July 2022, 12:01
EUROPEAN TRANSFER ROUND-UP: As clubs prepare to jet off on lucrative pre-season tours there still remains lots of unfinished transfer business as Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain eye up targets

Real Madrid are keen to build on their Champions League and La Liga double success by tying down their young stars on new long-term deals and adding to Carlo Ancelotti's victorious squad.

Rivals Barcelona also have ambitious plans to get themselves back to the top and president Joan Laporta is confident they can start splashing the cash again after securing a lucrative sponsorship deal with Spotify.

They still want Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich and have also been offered the chance to sign Cristiano Ronaldo, whose future at Manchester United remains uncertain. Mirror Sport has rounded up the latest transfer news and rumours from around Europe.

Staggering Real Madrid contracts

SPORTBIBLE carry a report from transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, claiming that Real Madrid are close to agreeing new deals with Rodrygo, Vinicius Junior and Eder Militao with escape clauses worth a combined one billion euros. Real are keen to tie the trio down to the Bernabeu after they helped the club win a Champions League and La Liga double last season and are close to agreeing terms with all three. Rodrygo will sign a six-year deal until 2028, while Vinicius and Militao will both pen four-year agreements. Real will insert hefty escape clauses in all three contracts to ward off any unwanted interest and these will add up to an eyewatering one billion euros or £860million.

Wijnaldum offered escape route

SPORTBIBLE claim former Liverpool star Gini Wijnaldum is being offered an escape route from Paris Saint-Germain by his old club PSV Eindhoven. Wijnaldum's Bosman move to PSG has not worked out as planned and he is in danger of missing out on Holland's squad at the World Cup because he is not playing regularly. The midfielder enjoyed a successful spell with PSV before joining Newcastle in 2015 and the Dutch side are keen to re-sign him. However Wijnaldum's reported £390,000-a-week wages are a huge stumbling block and he would either have to accept a massive pay cut or ask PSG to heavily subsidise his salary to join PSV.

Lewandowski latest

According to SB Nation's Bavarian Football Works, Bayern Munich are determined to play hardball with Barcelona in their negotiations over Lewandowski. Bayern are adamant they will not accept less than 50million euros for their wantaway striker - and they want the payment in one installment. Barcelona's offers have so far been way below Bayern's asking price and the Spanish giants are banking on the Bundesliga side compromising because Lewandowski has made it clear he wants to leave. However, transfer talks remain deadlocked with both sides.
