Real Madrid gain muscle with the arrivals of Tchouameni and Rudiger

With the exception of the required departures and a last-minute addition of a striker to provide Karim Benzema with backup, Real Madrid's squad for the 2022/23 season is mostly set.

But with the addition of Aurelien Tchouameni and Antonio Rudiger, it's clear to see what Carlo Ancelotti's plans for the campaign will be.

The addition of these two big players has added to the physical strength that Fede Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga, Vinicius Junior, Ferland Mendy, Eder Militao, and David Alaba have, making Real Madrid a force to be reckoned with.

It would be wrong to say that physicality is this side's strongest quality. Real Madrid have brought in outstanding players, but there is no denying that skill and quick feet are not the main factors that contribute to success in football today.

Because of his stature and ability to cover ground, Camavinga is the box-to-box player among the squad. However, he also has an eye for goal.

The same could be said about Alaba, whose versatility allows him to play as a centre-back, full-back, or central midfielder, and is tall and stocky.

Vinicius, the best example

Without any doubt, Vinicius is the best example of physicality in conjunction with talent. His wear and tear from every game is immeasurable, yet the Brazilian adds talent to the kilometres of running he puts in attacking and defending until he wears down his markers.

Under Ancelotti, Valverde has proven himself worthy of his position. He has contributed more energy to help Casemiro in that area in a less physical midfield with Toni Kroos and Luka Modric, especially when the Brazilian has been out.

Tchouameni and Rudiger

The signing of Tchouameni follows the recent trend at Real Madrid. The arrival of Kylian Mbappe, another athlete, would have too, but now that muscle is heading to the midfield.

He is a modern footballer, standing 1.87 cm tall, but he differs from Casemiro in that he has more agility, strength, and stamina. He can score goals, break lines, and string passes while being intimidating as a centre midfielder and stealing everything that moves through his area.

There are also players in defence that are rock-solid. Ferland Mendy is one example, who after gaining his place beside Marcelo, has shown what he can offer.

Another powerful centre-back is Rudiger, who was the fastest player in the Premier League, according to a study. Rudiger also adds a lot of character and dominance in addition to his imposing frame.

A Real Madrid in a rapid transition

Ancelotti will be able to switch between his two styles for another year at Real Madrid. The coach won't be able to claim that he doesn't have a team to press forward any longer.

Prior to the hefty loss in Paris, the low block proved effective for the majority of the season. With Valverde recovering from an injury and Camavinga still adjusting, Ancelotti let it slip that it was the wisest move given the talent at his disposal.

With Modric, Kroos, or Benzema in the team, Ancelotti will be able to keep the controlled style of play that has benefited the team much, but Real Madrid are also built for quick changes and a counterattacking style of play as well.
