Raphinha 'refusing to negotiate deal' with Chelsea despite transfer agreement

Raphinha has told his representatives he doesn't want to join Chelsea as he calls on them to halt discussions.

The winger is set to leave Leeds United, but where he ends up remains firmly undecided with several clubs keen. Chelsea looked to have leaped to the front of the queue, topping Arsenal's initial offer. However the Brazilian doesn't want to head to west London - and has told agent Deco to stop negotiating.

Chelsea were not expecting Raphinha to back out of any move, claims SPORT, but the player remains determined to seal a dream switch to Barcelona. The Catalans have long been the ideal destination for South American stars and the Leeds star is no different as he waits for their move.

The Spanish side though are struggling financially and cannot, yet, come up with the money needed. They're still waiting on Frenkie de Jong to join Manchester United to create funds, some of which they've already earmarked to sign Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski.

It leaves Raphinha in an awkward situation and pulling out of a move to Chelsea could see that door slam shut, potentially leaving him with less options. However, it's understood that Arsenal, who have seen a bid knocked back already by the Yorkshire side, remain keen.

Chelsea are in need of attacking reinforcements after sanctioning the loan exit of Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian was by no means prolific, but was the club's top scorer in all competitions last term and he will still need replacing in Thomas Tuchel's squad. The German was content to play without a recognised striker and that may continue.

That will further the need to have goals coming from midfield and wide areas, such is their interest in Raphinha, who has scored 17 times in the Premier League. Raheem Sterling is also on Chelsea's radar as the Manchester City man seeks more playing time, with his contract winding down at the Etihad.

Raphinha has his sights on playing a role at this winter's World Cup - which he admits will factor into his next decision. "Knowing that there are less than six months left for the Cup, you have to be active in the clubs, that weighs on the decision, but I trust my potential." Raphinha said, as reported by Globo. "If it's to stay or leave, I'll do my best, look for my space and I'll try to be well for the World Cup.

"I have a contract with Leeds until 2024, my future is in the hands of Deco and Leeds, I have my mind on the national team, on the game and also on my vacation, we need a vacation. I have a contract with Leeds and this issue is resolved by my manager, when something is right, he sends [it to] me."
