Manchester City man Bernardo Silva, who is admittedly in stunning form, was even labelled as better than the Manchester United forward right now.
But the Portuguese superstar went some way to proving any doubters out there wrong with two goals in Man United's 3-2 win over Arsenal.
Ronaldo coolly slotted home Marcus Rashford's low cross from the right to put his side 2-1 up before netting the winner with an emphatic penalty.
Incoming Red Devils interim boss Ralf Rangnick witnessed the 36-year-old's brilliance from the stands at Old Trafford, however, previous comments suggest he's not the former Real Madrid and Juventus star's biggest fan.
When asked if he would sign Ronaldo or rival Lionel Messi back in 2016, Rangnick replied: "It would be absurd to think that it could work with them here [RB Leipzig].
"They are both too old and too expensive."
We won't have an idea of Rangnick's vision for Ronaldo in his team until the German's first press conference in the job on Friday at the earliest.
However, these comments five years ago and the way Rangnick sides traditionally set up suggest the new boss will be something of a Ronaldo sceptic.
But with the Stretford End roaring Ronaldo's 'Siuuu' celebration as he celebrated his two goals which were ultimately decisive in Man United getting the win, Rangnick may well be forced to revise his comments made about the star.
