Rangnick facing growing unrest as third Man Utd star hopes to leave in January

Edinson Cavani has become the latest Manchester United player to plot a move away from the club with the Uruguayan open to joining Barcelona, according to reports.

Ralf Rangnick 's first two weeks in the United dugout have gone almost as well as possible, picking up two wins and a draw.

The two victories both came in the Premier League, bringing the Red Devils firmly back into the conversation for a top-four finish.

Signed on a deal until the end of the season, Rangnick is set to take up a consultancy role in the summer that will see him remain at Old Trafford until 2024.

That means United's short-term manager is also tasked with looking after in the future and is expected to be active in the upcoming January window.

The German is expected to be given some funds to help improve his squad, while he has already hinted he would like to trim the bloated squad he inherited from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

"If I look at the number of players we have, it's still a big squad, we definitely do not have not enough players," he explained last week.

"We need to make sure that players want to stay here. if they see they are not getting enough game time here, it might make sense to speak individually with the players to see if a loan deal might make sense, but right now, it's still too early to speak about that."

And there is already a growing list of players that are hoping to seal an exit once the transfer window reopens.

Anthony Martial has missed Rangnick's opening three games in charge with injury, but appears well down the pecking order behind the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford.

"Anthony wishes to leave the club in January," Philippe Lamboley told Sky Sports News. "He just needs to play. He doesn't want to stay in January and I will speak to the club soon."

Andreas Pereira then made his plans clear, admitting he hopes to stay with Flamengo, the club he joined on loan at the start of the season.

"My desire has always been to stay here at Flamengo, and now we are going to do everything," Pereira told ESPN.

"We are going to talk to President Landim and Marcos Braz to make this possible. Of course, I have a feeling that I owe the fans a title."

Cavani is another that may struggle under Rangnick's high-pressing regime, with the 63-year-old previously admitting he was against using veteran players within his system.

The central striker is set to become a free agent at the end of the season having signed a one-year extension during the summer.

But he has struggled in his second season in English football, with injuries limiting him to less than 300 minutes in all competitions.

Reports in Spain have heavily linked the Uruguayan with a move to Barcelona and according to Mundo Deportivo, he is still keen on the move despite their elimination from the Champions League.

Xavi's side were dumped out of the competition, relegated to the Europa League after finishing third in their group.

But that hasn't deterred Cavani who is motivated to turning around the LaLiga giants' fortunes following a disastrous few months on and off the field.
