Ralf Rangnick reverses Ole Gunnar Solskjaer decision to halt Man Utd exodus

Jose Mourinho is planning alternatives with Diogo Dalot's situation at Manchester United transformed under Ralf Rangnick.

Dalot appeared surplus to requirements under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford, well behind Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the battle for the starting right-back berth.

The Portuguese international spent last season out on loan with AC Milan in order to gain some more regular minutes and was expected to go out again this term.

However, according to reports, Solskjaer personally intervened to block potential moves both back to Milan and to Borussia Dortmund.

Despite that intervention Dalot remained little more than an afterthought in the opening weeks of the season, with the likelihood of a January move increasing on a weekly basis.

Roma boss Mourinho, who brought his compatriot to Old Trafford in 2018, had hopes of reuniting at the Stadio Olimpico.

Those prospects have now changed with Rangnick pinpointing Dalot as his starter in the early weeks of his tenure.

Dalot has played every Premier League minute since the change of manager and Wan-Bissaka now appears the man fighting for minutes.

According to reports in Corriere Dello Sport via Sport Witness a move for Dalot is no longer certain and they are now looking at alternatives which include Norwich City's Max Aarons and Benjamin Henrichs at RB Leipzig.

January promises to be an intriguing month for Man United supporters with Rangnick likely to be given funds, while a number of players could be moved on.

Anthony Martial was the first player to make his feelings known, with his agent confirming his intention to seek an exit.

"Anthony wishes to leave the club in January," Philippe Lamboley told Sky Sports News. "He just needs to play. He doesn't want to stay in January and I will speak to the club soon."

Andreas Pereira, currently on loan with Flamengo, was the next to make his desire to leave clear, telling ESPN: "My desire has always been to stay here at Flamengo, and now we are going to do everything.

"We are going to talk to President Landim and Marcos Braz to make this possible. Of course, I have a feeling that I owe the fans a title."

Rangnick has also been forced to address Paul Poba's future, with the Frenchman continuing to prolong contract negotiations.

Mino Raiola said there was a chance his client would remain with the Red Devils, but the interim boss will waste no further time trying to convince him.

"I wouldn't say he is not worth keeping but players need to want to stay and play for the club," said Rangnick.

"If a player doesn't want to play for a club like Manchester United, even in the long term, I don't think it makes sense to convince him to change his mind.

"This is such a massive club, with fantastic support, I don't think anyone at the club should try to convince a player to stay.

"Let's have him come back, get fully fit and training with the team, then we will see where we stand."
