Reports emerged on Monday that claimed a Premier League footballer has been arrested on suspicion of rape.
The player was said to be in his late 20s and will now not be travelling with his club on their pre-season tour. He was also set to participate in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar later this year.
The reports from The Athletic and The Telegraph offered these initial details, while The Sun have added that six police cars went to his mansion when the arrest was made via "a dramatic 03:00 swoop by cops".
He was then questioned about the matter for more than 15 hours.
