Premier League 100 club: Raheem Sterling moves clear of Ian Wright

sportsmole.co.uk, 15 May 2023, 21:01
Raheem Sterling's first Premier League goals since New Year's Day saw him move clear of Arsenal legend Ian Wright as the 22nd-highest scorer in the competition's history on Saturday.

The Chelsea winger netted twice against Nottingham Forest, who were also the victims the last time he scored a league goal, to earn his side a point and take his Premier League tally up to 115 - now only five behind his former Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard.

There was also a customary goal from Harry Kane, who equalled Mohamed Salah's Premier League record of scoring in 24 separate games in a single campaign with Tottenham Hotspur's goal in their 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa.

That penalty took Kane two clear of Wayne Rooney as the second-highest scorer in the division's history, with all-time record-holder Alan Shearer now 50 away.

None of the other active 100-club members were on the scoresheet over the weekend, but there was a hat-trick of assists for Liverpool's Mohamed Salah as he closed in on 200 direct Premier League goal involvements.
