Pau Torres breaks silence on Man Utd transfer as agents 'arrive in UK'

Pau Torres says he remains "calm" despite the speculation surrounding his future.

The Villarreal defender has been linked with a move to Chelsea and Manchester United this summer after impressing for Unai Emery's side this season en route to the Champions League semi-final. The Red Devils' interest dates back to last summer under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who got a front-row seat of his star talent when Villarreal defeated United in the Europa League final.

Torres was a part of a five-man shortlist alongside Raphael Varane who would eventually sign with United. Spanish radio station Cadena Ser reports that the transfer to United has been 'discussed and negotiated' with the player's representatives, who have travelled to England this weekend, to speed up the process.

Torres' potential transfer has also been discussed internally with Erik Ten Hag, according to the Manchester Evening News, who is said to want the Spain international 'at all costs'. But the 25-year-old isn't fazed about the noise surrounding his future and insists the only offer he has received is a contract offer from Villarreal that he is yet to sign.

"Right now there is nothing at all, there is talk of many things like every year, I have peace of mind of being where they want me, at the club of my life and I have this offer right now that I value as very positive", Torres was quoted as saying by Spanish daily AS.

"There is nothing right now, the only thing I have is the offer from Villarreal, so I am very calm." Torres still has a release clause in his current deal which runs out in 2024, in the region of £55million, after he penned a contract extension three years ago.

Torres didn't want to entertain an exit from Villarreal last summer as he wanted to play Champions League football with his boyhood club. But the defender has suggested there could be a different outcome this time around now that he has experienced playing in Europe's elite competition as the Spanish club have maintained the stance that it is his decision if he wants to leave or not.

"The pull of playing the Champions League with the team from my town was bigger," he told The Guardian back in November. "I was clear from the start. This is only the fourth time Villarreal reached the Champions League, which shows how hard it is, and it was a dream to play in the competition with my lifelong club.

"The president didn't put pressure on me, even though they could make a lot of money. He always said 'the decision's yours', that he'd respect it. I appreciate that.

"What I could experience with the club was unrepeatable. I'm comfortable in my town, with my close people, and the group we have and the people we signed - [Arnaut] Danjuma, Boulaye [Dia], Gerard [Moreno] renewed. I'm enjoying it. It's a special year, the group is very close, that's why I stayed."
