Palmer reveals why he'd be dreadful pundit when asked about post-retirement plan

At the ripe age of 22, the prospect of hanging up the boots is not something that will be on Palmer's mind for some time.

But Father Time eventually catches up with everyone and a life post-football must come into consideration.

Many opt to remain in the game, with coaching and punditry two of the most common ways.

But don't expect to see Palmer gracing the radio airwaves or television screens once his playing days are finished.

"I don't think my answers would be long enough to be a pundit," Palmer said.

However, the Chelsea star did reveal one way in which he'd like to stay involved.

"I don't know what I'll do," Palmer said.

"Might be a scout."

Should Palmer opt for a career as a scout, it'd take something special to discover a player with similar abilities to him.

Following his £40million move from Manchester City to Chelsea in August 2023, Palmer has established himself as one of the best young talents in world football.

He enjoyed a breakout year in his debut season at Stamford Bridge, registering 27 goals and 15 assists from 48 appearances in all competitions.

Palmer's 22-goal haul in the league was bettered only by City's goal machine Erling Haaland who scored five more.

The Chelsea star's impressive campaign placed him 25th in the 2024 Ballon d'Or rankings, beating the likes of Declan Rice and Alejandro Grimaldo.

Palmer was rewarded for his stunning opening term at Stamford Bridge with a contract extension through to 2033.

The 22-year-old has since maintained the momentum this year, scoring 14 goals and providing six assists from 23 league games.

However, Palmer has been restricted to Premier League fixtures as Blues boss Enzo Maresca decided to 'protect' the attacking dynamo from fixture overload.

But now that Chelsea are comfortably through to the knockout stages of the Europa Conference League, Maresca can add Palmer into the squad.

Palmer will look to get back amongst the goals in Chelsea's next match as they host West Ham United on Monday.

The England international scored one of the Blues' three goals when the two sides met earlier in the season at the London Stadium.
