Onana set to miss Leicester clash with Man United to turn to 22-year-old rookie

Birmingham-born Mee's last senior game was on loan at National League Altrincham two seasons ago.

Andre Onana will travel to the King Power Stadium but faces a late fitness test and sources have told talkSPORT he will not be put at any risk of a longer lay-off.

If the 28-year-old fails the fitness test, it would be the first time he has missed a Premier League fixture since joining United in July 2023.

It would also place a major doubt on his participation with Cameroon in the international break.

Onana was called up by Cameroon for their upcoming clashes with Eswatini and Libya.

Mee has been involved in United's last three fixtures across all competitions as he was an unused substitute.

The 22-year-old's presence in the matchday squads comes as regular back-up goalkeeper Altay Bayindir is out with injury, as is third-choice gloveman Tom Heaton.

Should Mee come in for Onana, it will be his first senior start since September 2022.

That start came during his loan spell at Altrincham, where he only made four appearances.

He has featured seven times for the Red Devils' Under-21 side this season, with five appearances in the Premier League 2 and two in the EFL Trophy.

One of his EFL Trophy appearances came in a 3-3 draw against Doncaster Rovers but helped United claim a bonus point by winning the penalty shootout.

Mee denied Doncaster's George Broadbent from the spot to help United secure a 5-3 win on penalties.

United go into the clash against Leicester sitting 15th in the league.

However, they will hope to maintain momentum having beaten Real Sociedad 4-1 on Thursday to progress to the Europa League quarter-finals.

Red Devils skipper Bruno Fernandes netted a hat-trick against the San Sebastian outfit in one of United's best displays under Ruben Amorim.

United are also unbeaten in their last three league fixtures, with the most recent being a gritty 1-1 draw against Arsenal.

As for Leicester, they sit 19th and have lost 12 of their last 13 in the league.

Wolves' win over rock-bottom Southampton on Saturday also meant the Foxes are now nine points away from safety.

Sunday's clash will be the fourth time Leicester and United have played each other this season, with the Red Devils winning the previous three encounters.
