Officials confirm Ronaldo should have been given Man Utd penalty vs West Ham

Premier League match officials have confirmed that Cristiano Ronaldo can feel hard done by after he was denied several penalties at the London Stadium on Sunday.

The Manchester United star scored his side's equaliser against West Ham before Jesse Lingard's winner.

Prior to the decisive goal however Ronaldo saw three penalty appeals waved away by Martin Atkinson.

He clashed with Kurt Zouma but it was an incident with Vladimir Coufal that has been raised.

The man in the middle was not advised to consult the VAR monitor meaning his original decision stood.

However, according to The Times, at their fortnightly meeting referees were told that a spot kick would have been a better call on the pitch.

And that Atkinson should have been asked to review the decision on the pitchside monitor.

Ronaldo's reactions during the 90 minutes made it clear that he felt aggrieved.

Fortunately for the Red Devils they still came away with all three points, despite the Hammers being awarded a stoppage time penalty themselves.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was keen to watch his words post match but it was clear he thought his side should've been given at least one of the decisions.

He said: "I'm going to be careful with what I'm saying, but you've got to be wondering what's he's got to do to get a penalty.

"The first [obstruction by Coufal] and the third [tackle by Ogbonna] is 100 per cent nailed on.

"The one where he gets pulled back backstick [by Cresswell] is probably [not obvious], but it's still a foul, he gets pulled down in the box. It's frustrating but they've got to look at it. It's two clear penalties.

"I think they're stonewall. You can't even argue against them. The first one, he puts his foot out and Ronaldo runs straight and is fouled.

"The last one, Paul had a foul against him on Zouma when he didn't touch him but he went over him. Why is Cristiano's not? Hopefully it won't be that he's never going to get a penalty."

United, who are known for often getting the rub of the green when it comes to decisions, are yet to be given a penalty yet this term.

Many have questioned whether it will be Ronaldo or Bruno Fernandes to take the spot kick.

Fernandes was United' penalty taker last term and has an excellent record from 12 yards.

On the subject Solskjaer said: "I've had a chat with the two of them. We've got two players there that I'd trust with my life to put a penalty away and that's a great position to be in."
