But that was the case on Sunday, when the Paris Saint-Germain forward and his superstar teammate Lionel Messi showed the Manchester United man how to treat a manager.

During a routine 5-0 win over Auxerre in PSG's last game before the World Cup, Messi and Neymar were substituted with 15 minutes to go and the good friends took a spot on the bench next to each other.

With the game dying down, Neymar appeared to gesture over to manager Christophe Galtier and then showed him a thumbs up.

After turning to Messi, the pair then were allowed to head to the dressing room early, earning pats on the back as they passed the coaches' front bench.

Galtier then grabbed Neymar for a quick chat, but it was very different to scenes earlier this season at Old Trafford.

Back in October, in the dying moments of a 2-0 win over Tottenham, Ronaldo refused to come on for Erik ten Hag and then stormed down the tunnel.

The moment made headline news and overshadowed a big win for United, and the Dutch manager confirmed Ronaldo snubbed his orders.

That resulted in widespread criticism, and Ronaldo was left out of the following squad for a 1-1 draw with Chelsea and later ordered to train alone.

The incident was unsurprisingly flagged up again after Ronaldo held an interview in which he said he doesn't respect Ten Hag, and added that he felt 'disappointed' and 'betrayed' by the club.

Comparisons will undoubtedly be drawn to his career-long rival Messi, and it doesn't help that both of the most recent examples of professionalism both came to light on the same day…
