Megan Rapinoe on Carlos Cordeiro's possible return to U.S. Soccer: "Caveman levels of misogyny"

U.S. Women's National Team star Megan Rapinoe on Tuesday strongly opposed the return of Carlos Cordeiro as President of U.S. Soccer.

According to reports, Cordeiro is seriously considering returning to the position he left in 2020, after he was reportedly nominated by several people to fill the position.

Rapinoe, a spokeswoman for equal pay for women and men

Rapinoe, an activist for the equal rights of women over men has been the spokeswoman for the movement calling for equal salaries and economic awards for members of the women's and men's national team.

"Pinoe" used her official Twitter account to re-share a note from ESPN mentioning Cordeiro "resigning under pressure" which she rather interpreted as "resigned bc he embarrassed everything and everyone with caveman levels of misogyny?"

Cordeiro's resignation came in March 2020 when after a lawsuit filed jointly by the USWNT demanding equal pay and U.S. Soccer's reaction shocked several involved.

The document read: "do not perform equal work requiring equal skill [and] effort" to the men's team because "the overall soccer-playing ability required to compete at the senior men's national team level is materially influenced by the level of certain physical attributes such as speed and strength."

Appeal of USWNT lawsuit to be heard in March

Cordeiro had stepped into the position of President of U.S. Soccer in 2018 but after this backlash the pressure was not long in coming and executives, sponsors and players demanded the departure of the executive who eventually resigned from his position.

The aforementioned lawsuit was dismissed in May 2020, however, the USWNT players, led by Rapinoe, have filed an appeal with the federal court that will hear oral arguments next March.

"There is nothing quite like entering a stadium and hearing thousands of our supporters vigorously chanting 'Equal Pay,'" Tobin Heath said. "We enter this next phase of our legal fight with the same energy we bring to each of our matches."
