Mbappe's comments on Klopp as he returns favour and makes transfer 'contact'

Kylian Mbappe has reportedly contacted Liverpool to inform them he will be joining Real Madrid if he leaves Paris Saint-Germain in this summer's transfer window.

The World Cup winner is out of contract at PSG next month and has failed to agree on an extension, despite the club throwing millions at the forward in a desperate attempt to keep him. French President Emmanuel Macron even tried to convince Mbappe to remain in the country, but he now looks certain to join Real Madrid.

The La Liga giants attempted to sign the France international three times last summer but saw bids reaching in excess of €200million (£171m) rejected by PSG, who remained determined they could convince Mbappe to sign a new long-term deal.

The decision to reject the big-money transfer fee has now backfired on PSG tremendously, with the club preparing to lose the 23-year-old, who they paid £166million for in 2017, for free.

As Real Madrid will not have to splash out on a transfer fee they are putting together an enticing financial package including wages, incentives and signing-on fees to land Mbappe.

The Frenchman is believed to have met with Real Madrid general director Jose Angel Sanchez in the Spanish capital last week, where Marca report an agreement was reached.

The publication also claims that Mbappe notified Liverpool - who have shown great interest in the Frenchman over the years - of his decision to realise a boyhood dream and play for Real Madrid instead of the Reds.

Mbappe has flirted with the idea of joining the Anfield club in recent years, telling the Premier League in 2020: "This season, Liverpool have been a machine in the Premier League. They have made winning look easy but the truth is that it is never easy. Performances like they have been having don't just happen.

He has also had some very positive things to say about Reds boss Jurgen Klopp, adding: "To be as ruthless as they have been would come from lots of hard work in training and from having a very good manager."

It was also reported in 2020 by Le10Sport that Klopp approached Mbappe to see if he'd consider a move to Liverpool. The German is said to have spoken to the striker in private and also had a conversation over the phone with his dad, Wilfried.

Mbappe was said to have been "flattered" by the interest shown in him at the time and has now, two years on, returned the favour by contacting Klopp after making a transfer decision. Unfortunately for Liverpool, though, he hasn't delivered the news they would have wanted.
