Man Utd stars feel 'misled' by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after summer assurances

Amid increasing pressure and speculation surrounding his future as Manchester United boss, a number of players are growing increasingly frustrated with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Manchester United 's stars have begun to grow frustrated over some of the decisions made by boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after a disastrous start to the season.

Many had tipped United for a title tilt this season, yet Solskjaer's side appear to be out of the race by mid-November following a huge decline in form.

Six defeats from the last 12 fixtures has sparked huge speculation over whether those at the top of the United hierarchy are edging closer to swinging their axe, but Solskjaer remains on their good side for now.

Whether that remains the case with his squad however, is an entirely different story as reports emerge suggesting some players feel misled over the amount of playing time they've enjoyed this term.

According to ESPN, Solskjaer had held talks with members of the squad over the summer to concede he had overplayed some of his team and promised last term's fringe players they would have a bigger role to play this season.

The likes of Donny van de Beek, Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial will have been pleased to hear they were due more minutes than they had received the previous season, but it hasn't exactly gone to plan.

Solskjaer's vow for more equal playing time led players that would have otherwise left the club to scupper any exit plans.

Yet, Van de Beek has enjoyed a grand total of 16 Premier League minutes and Lingard has started just one game all season - a Carabao Cup defeat at home to West Ham.

Martial featured more prominently at the beginning of the season, but an injury has meant his last league outing came in the 1-1 draw with Everton at the beginning of October.

The frustration stems from certain players inability to get minutes despite those in front of them underperforming during the recent dismal run.

In the defeats by Leicester City, Liverpool and Man City, the starting line-up contained eight of the same players - Solskjaer refusing to tweak his approach of risk bringing a player on the outskirts of the side into the fold.

Van de Beek is one talent that has grown tired of his spending most of the season on the bench and is expected to explore what options he has elsewhere come the January transfer window.

Much like Van de Beek with the Netherlands, Lingard's lack of game-time has seen him lose his place in the international set-up, Gareth Southgate overlooking the 28-year-old for the latest England squad.

Given the talent of both players, Van de Beek and Lingard each have a number of potential suitors they could join if Solskjaer continues to go back on his word from the summer.

Everton are expected to reignite their interest ex-Ajax star Van de Beek, while Lingard's situation is being monitored by European giants Barcelona.

The United academy graduate has refrained from extending his stay at the club under Solskjaer despite his contract expiring next summer, such is his desperation for regular football.
