Man Utd branded a "shambles of a club" after yet another transfer deal collapses

Manchester United have been slammed for being a "shambles of a club" after seeing their move for Adrien Rabiot collapse.

Rabiot had emerged as their leading alternative option to top target Frenkie de Jong. A deal for the Barcelona star has also hit the buffers, with the Dutchman reluctant to move to Old Trafford, despite having the chance to link back up with Erik ten Hag.

The Red Devils got as far as agreeing a £15million fee with Juventus for the transfer of Rabiot. But the move has now broken down over the Frenchman's hefty wage demands, which United have been unwilling to match.

It means that United have still only been able to bring in three players so far this summer. With the deal for Rabiot now off, the Premier League giants will be forced to find yet another alternative to De Jong.

And the shambolic state of affairs at Old Trafford has now led to former Aston Villa star Gabby Agbonlahor taking aim at the Red Devils. He blasted their summer business and backed Rabiot for demanding such a high salary.

"Before the season started I said that Manchester United have been desperate in their attempts to get De Jong. He don't want to sign for them, I've been proved right, he doesn't want to go there," Agbonlahor told talkSPORT.

"They've tried to get Rabiot and I don't blame Rabiot, he wants top dollar to go to Manchester United, the only reason he's going to go there is for the money. They've not going to give it him.

"Why would he leave to Manchester United where they're at now, a shambles of a club, turmoil in the dressing room, losing their first two games. Why would he go there? And then it's desperation. Casemiro. Did they not learn from Varane?

"Signing Varane at 28, 29 and he's not been the same player he was at Real Madrid. Casemiro's been amazing for them, but they've got some up-and-coming top midfielders, Camavinga, still got Kroos and Modric, so they'll be happy to get some money in for Casemiro. Manchester United seem desperate. It's a shame to see."

With deals for both De Jong and Rabiot dead, the Manchester Evening News report that United have ignored Agbonlahor and approached Real Madrid about a potential move for Casemiro. It is unknown if the Brazilian wants to join United, though he is seen as an attainable target.

Casemiro starred during Madrid's run to winning the Champions League last season, though could see his place in Carlo Ancelotti's team come under threat this summer. Los Blancos have brought in Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni in the past two summer windows.

That would appears to signal a decision to transition to a younger-looking midfield. With the Red Devils desperate for a central midfielder, it would seem that their sights are now set on Casemiro.
