Man United fans unfurl anti-Rashford banner with four-word message

The Red Devils were preparing to face Tottenham in the Carabao Cup quarter final when one supporter unveiled the message from the away section at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The banner read: "Excuses. Ta ra, Marcus."

It comes after Rashford's bombshell interview in which he signalled his intention to seek a new challenge away from Old Trafford.

As a result, the forward was left out of Ruben Amorim's squad for the clash in north London with serious question marks over whether he'll play for the club again.

Rashford was also sent home from training due to illness and did not train with his teammates on Monday.

Speaking to Winter, Rashford said: "For me, personally, I think I'm ready for a new challenge and the next steps.

"When I leave it's going to be 'no hard feelings'. You're not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That's me as a person.

"If I know that a situation is already bad I'm not going to make it worse. I've seen how other players have left in the past and I don't want to be that person.

"When I leave I'll make a statement and it will be from me. 100 per cent."

Rashford added: "I'm halfway through my career. I don't expect my peak to be now.

"I've had nine years so far in the Premier League and that's taught me a lot, that's helped me grow as a player and as a person.

"So I don't have any regrets from the last nine years.

"I won't have any regrets going forward because I take things day by day and sometimes bad things happen, sometimes good things happen. I just try and keep a fine balance."

One man who couldn't get his head around Rashford's comments was Danny Murphy who told talkSPORT: "I've backed Marcus a lot and I do. I've always liked him. He's a super talent and tried to understand it the best I can," he began. "But I'm really struggling with this one.

"What are you doing? Who are you helping because you are not helping yourself.

"If he puts the United shirt on again and has half a bad game, they're gonna say he's ready to jump. He doesn't want to be there and you can see it in his play.

"He's just giving himself a bigger amount of pressure. Surely you want to play again because you want to keep putting yourself in the window and keep yourself fit. So that's a problem.

"He's put huge pressure on himself if he plays again. He's put the club in a difficult position in that he's saying he wants to leave.

"Someone might want him, they're gonna try and get him on the cheap because they know he's desperate to go."

Man United found themselves 1-0 down early on when Dominic Solanke slotted home on the rebound after Red Devils goalkeeper Altay Bayindir parried a long-range strike by Pedro Porro into the Spurs forward's path.

Things got even worse for the Red Devils shortly after half-time when Dejan Kulusevski made it 2-0, before Solanke struck again to make it 3-0 after 54 minutes.

Joshua Zirkzee did claw one back after capitalising on a Fraser Forster error, before a second mistake allowed Amad Diallo to make it 3-2.
