Man United fans remind Graeme Souness of Casemiro comments that have not aged well

The Brazilian midfielder secured his first silverware in red on Sunday as he scored in the Carabao Cup final to end United's six-season wait for a trophy.

His performance in the 2-0 win over Newcastle has been nothing out of the ordinary this season for the Brazilian, who has produced some sublime displays in the heart of Erik ten Hag's midfield helping transform the club.

Joining from Real Madrid in the summer for £60million, with up to £10m in add-ons, some questioned the deal for a number of reasons.

Despite his incredible trophy haul in Spain, the fee was questioned, as was the length of contract until 2026, and reported wages of £350,000-per-week for a 30-year-old.

Liverpool legend Souness was one of those to raise his doubts on talkSPORT, something United fans are now delighted to bring up.

Speaking in August, the Scot said: "He was playing with great players. He's not a great player. He has never been a great player.

"I see him as a steady Eddie who will help United be more solid in midfield.

"I don't think he has got a great range of passing. I don't think he is going to help other people play.

"I think he was lucky to be in that Real Madrid team. I never look forward to watching Casemiro. [Karim] Benzema, definitely. The other midfield players, definitely.

"I never thought, 'I'm really excited to watch Casemrio play today'."

"He is 30 years old and it's £70m. Too much money. It is Manchester United all over again.

"Manchester United will pay a premium because it is Manchester United and the Premier League and people know it's awash with money. But I don't see him making them any better when they have the ball."

As it stands, Souness will have to be hoping for a mega drop-off in the remaining years of Casemiro's contract.
