Man United 'agree deal' to reunite Ruben Amorim with Sporting wonderkid

According to Portuguese outlet A Bola, the 17-year-old will follow former Sporting boss Ruben Amorim to Old Trafford this summer.

The Portugal youth international who turns 18 in April will set United back a whopping £50.2million.

Amorim is keen to be reunited with the young prodigy again after the pair worked together before his move to Manchester United in November.

The report claims that United's interest in Quenda predates the Amorim era with scouts having tracked the starlet for some time.

Amorim, who is credited with launching the winger's career, is set to continue his association with Quenda but not until the summer, although the possibility of a January move was discussed between the two clubs.

Despite his tender age, Quenda has featured in 34 matches for the Portuguese league leaders, making 26 starts while netting two goals and providing four assists.

Whilst nurtured as a winger, Quenda was deployed in a wing-back role during Amorim's time at Sporting.

"He's very talented, very mature and understands the game like an adult," Amorim told Sporting TV last summer

"He obviously has a lot to improve on, but I think he had an excellent game and we have a player there."

He later reverted back to a winger following Amorim's departure and although a predominant left-footer, Quenda is comfortable playing on either flank.

His versatility in playing either a defensive or attacking role fits in with Amorim's philosophy with the incoming Patrick Dorgu expected to offer similar traits.

Although born in Guinea-Bissau, Quenda opted to represent Portugal at international level having turned out for the Esperanças at under-17 and under-21 level.

His impressive displays earned him a first call up to Roberto Martinez's senior squad in August for the Nations League ties against Croatia and Scotland but he did not feature in either match.

Quenda will be keeping a close eye on United between now and the end of the season as Amorim bids to steer his inconsistent side up the table.

The Red Devils are currently 12th in the table following a topsy-turvy start to Amorim's tenure.

Although he has led his side to a set of admirable results including wins at Arsenal and Manchester City as well as a creditable draw against Liverpool at Anfield, United have blundered to some disappointing results.

Defeats at home to Nottingham Forest, Brighton and Bournemouth and a loss at Wolves has ensured the storm clouds have remained hovering over Old Trafford.

Their best hope of Champions League football remains in Europa League success with United booking their place in the round of 16 with a 2-0 win at FCSB on Thursday.

Amorim is also eyeing success in the FA Cup with a fourth-round tie against Leicester City on the horizon.

United's immediate focus is Sunday's clash at home to Crystal Palace and a victory could see them leapfrog Brentford into 11th place.
