It was reported that Solskjaer told his troops that the re-signing of club legend Cristiano Ronaldo takes them above the historic 1998/99 treble winning side that he was part of.
Not only have United brought back one of football's all-time greats in the shape of Ronaldo this summer, they've also signed Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund for £73million, along with Raphael Varane from Real Madrid for £43m.
And according to the Daily Mail, Solskjaer has decided to use the signing of Ronaldo from Juventus as a confidence booster, telling his players that it makes them favourites to lift the Premier League title this season.
Solskjaer was a key player as United lifted the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League, scoring the winning goal in the final of the latter to cement his place in folklore.
But talkSPORT's Tony Cascarino somewhat echoed Solskjaer's reported sentiments, claiming he'd rather have Harry Maguire than Jaap Stam in his team.
But talkSPORT's Tony Cascarino somewhat echoed Solskjaer's reported sentiments, claiming he'd rather have Harry Maguire than Jaap Stam in his team.
Explaining the Dutch legend's snub, Cascarino said: "Well Jaap Stam didn't do it long enough.
"If I'm going to think in the future I would go just Harry Maguire because I think he's somehow been made a little bit of a scapegoat in some people's eyes.
"I actually think he's done really well for Manchester United, they've definitely improved with him in there anyway."
Cascarino's opinion was latter relayed to fellow talkSPORT pundit Perry Groves, who was rather shocked to say the least.
Groves responded: "Was it a real high dose of caffeine that Cas had this morning?"
"Jaap Stam's probably one of the best centre halves that the Premier League has ever seen.
"There's one player that Sir Alex Ferguson said he wished he hadn't got rid of and that was Jaap Stam, because he thought he was getting carried away with himself with things other than football."
