Los Angeles FC will visit the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday night for Week 18 of the MLS season. LAFC are curently in first place of the Western Conference with less than half of the season left to play.
Whitecaps, meanwhile, find themselves in the 11th position of the West but a win over LAFC could catapult them to eighth.
The Carlos Vela-led team has the best record in the league and the Mexican striker is 16th in scoring with only six goals.
Cristian Arango also has six goals for LAFC this season, forming a dynamic duo with Vela that so far has been unstoppable.
Reunited on the field
There will be a few reunions on the field Saturday night as LAFC goalkeeper Max Crépeau faces his former teammates after spending four years in Vancouver.
LAFC defender Doneil Henry also played for the Whitecaps in 2018 and LAFC assistant coach Marc Dos Santos was head coach of Vancouver from 2018 to 2021.
Tristan Blackmon, meanwhile, the second draft pick in LAFC history, now plays for the Whitecaps.
The best player for the Canadian squad is Ryan Gauld, who last year led Vancouver to the MLS Cup Playoffs.
Even though he hasn't met expectations this season, Gauld continues to be a dangerous option in transition, which LAFC must limit if they hope to win.
Newly-signed Designated Player, Andres Cubas, will be a key piece when it comes to the Whitecaps stopping Vela and company in their attack.
Whitecaps could upset LAFC
LAFC enter the match as heavy favorites but Whitecaps could upset the No. 1 seed if they build succesful counter-attacks.
Gauld will need to find Cristian Dajome or Lucas Cavallini in transition to come out on top.
