The Reds went into the international break looking down on the other 19 teams in the division, although they could be overtaken by both Manchester City and Arsenal before kickoff at 4.30pm.
Integral to Liverpool's flying start under Arne Slot has been the timeless Mohamed Salah, who has already contributed six goals and five assists from 10 games in all tournaments this season and was released early from Egypt duty to ensure that he would be in tip-top condition for Sunday.
Ahead of Salah's reunion with the club he represented from 2014 to 2016, Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at the 32-year-old's record against the Blues.
Mohamed Salah's record vs. Chelsea
Played: 22
Wins: 9
Draws: 7
Losses: 6
Goals: 7
Assists: 3
Making a mere 19 appearances during his failed stint at Chelsea, Salah has now remarkably played against the Blues more times than he played for them, as he has faced the West London giants 22 times throughout his career, more than any other team.
Salah's 22 matches against Chelsea have brought mixed results, though, as while he has been on the winning side in nine of those contests, he has also been a part of seven draws and six defeats against his old team.
The winger's individual record versus Chelsea is also more modest compared to some of his other club tallies, as he has been directly involved in 10 goals in those 22 games, seven of his own and three assists.
Three of those goals actually came before Salah even pulled on the Chelsea jersey, as while the attacker was representing Swiss outfit Basel, he faced the Blues in the 2012-13 Europa League semi-finals and 2013-14 Champions League group stage.
Salah scored his first goal against Chelsea in the Europa second leg, but Basel still fell to a 5-2 aggregate loss, before netting in both Champions League victories against the Blues in the 2013-14 campaign, convincing the West London giants that he was worth spending £13.8m on.
Since landing on Merseyside, Salah has not been able to string a consistent run together in this fixture and is now without a goal in his last three Premier League games against Chelsea since finding the back of the net in both top-flight draws in the 2021-22 season.
However, the attacker did set up Luis Diaz's strike in the 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge on the opening weekend of the 2023-24 Premier League season, as well as also providing assists in both appearances during Liverpool's triumphant 2019-20 campaign.
Across five FA Cup, EFL Cup and UEFA Super Cup contests for the Reds against Chelsea, Salah has failed to bank a direct goal involvement in any of them, and he was unavailable for the 2023-24 EFL Cup final win due to a muscular injury.
