Liverpool urged to sign Bellingham and Haaland in incredible double-swoop

mirror.co.uk, 28 October 2021, 10:09

Liverpool should sign both Jude Bellingham and Erling Haaland because they are 'built for the Premier League,' according to former England defender Glen Johnson.

Both Bellingham and Haaland have been linked with a move to Anfield, alongside several other clubs in the Premier League and on the continent.

The Borussia Dortmund duo are two of the brightest talents in world football and are expected to leave the German giants in the near future.

And ex-Liverpool and Chelsea right-back Johnson would like to see Jurgen Klopp's side go after the pair in the January transfer window.

"I'd love to see Haaland and Bellingham at Liverpool," Johnson told William Hill.

Erling Haaland has been linked with a move to Liverpool

"They are two young guys who are built for the Premier League and for a club like Liverpool.

"They could develop over the years under a manager like Jurgen Klopp and I could see them becoming massive names in football for a long, long time.

"There'll be competition from other clubs across Europe for sure, but I think it'd be appealing to come to Anfield, challenge for trophies and work under a top class manager like Klopp."

When asked about Klopp, Johnson said he expects the German boss to be at Anfield for years to come following his arrival from Dortmund in 2015.

"I don't think he'll be tempted at the moment at all, as the club have been focusing on building up since the owners came in, and it was always a long-term plan to compete for every trophy and they'll see Jurgen as a big part of that," Johnson said.

"I think any other job for him would be a step backwards. As we know, anything can happen in football, but I still can't see him leaving any time soon."

Norwegian forward Haaland is expected to depart Dortmund next summer when his £68million release clause comes into play.

Jude Bellingham is expected to join a Premier League club when he leaves Borussia Dortmund

Haaland has scored 70 goals in just 69 appearances since joining Dortmund from Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg in January 2020.

The Norwegian has enjoyed a fantastic start to the current campaign, which has seen him score 13 times in just ten appearances in all competitions.

Haaland has struggled with injuries this season and is currently facing another spell on the sidelines with a hip flexor problem.

Meanwhile, Bellingham has also been tipped to leave Dortmund next summer in favour of a move to the Premier League.

Liverpool opted against signing a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum when the midfielder departed for PSG this summer, and Klopp could raid his former employers for the highly-rated England international.

Glen Johnson thinks Liverpool should sign both Bellingham and Haaland

Dortmund Sporting Director Sebastian Kehl recently confirmed Liverpool's interest in Bellingham, but Klopp knows he won't come cheap, and neither will they be alone in their attempt to sign the 18-year-old.

"There's a lot of interest around Jude Bellingham, not only Liverpool," Kehl told Sport1.

"But there is no bottom line and no exit clause."

Liverpool remain unbeaten following their 2-0 victory over Preston at Deepdale in the last-16 of the EFL Cup on Wednesday, thanks to goals from Takumi Minamino and Divock Origi.

Klopp's side will play host to Brighton in the Premier League on Saturday at Anfield.
