An even match for 75 minutes turned into a mountain to climb for Inter as Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah struck within eight, late minutes.
Firmino was one of four substitutions made by Jurgen Klopp before the 60th minute, as the Reds boss attempted to ease some unrelenting Inter pressure.
The Brazilian flicked in a brilliant header from an Andy Robertson corner, before Salah grabbed his 10th goal in eight away Champions League matches via a lucky deflection in the box.
Speaking on commentary for talkSPORT, ex-Premier League striker Dean Ashton said: "They've not been at their best, they've struggled to get into any rhythm before those changes from Klopp.
"Fair play and a pat on the bat to Klopp. He recognised that they were under pressure, he made a triple change and they took a grip on the game."
