Haaland update

Man City boss Pep Guardiola has also given an update on Erling Haaland after he missed the 2-0 defeat today.

City lacked a cutting edge against Liverpool and rarely looked like scoring, so they will want to have their main man back.

When asked whether Haaland will be fit to play on Wednesday night against Spurs, Guardiola told BBC MOTD: "I don't know.

"I am not saying we didn't get the result because Erling was not there.

"That is unfair on the other players. We could finish more but in general, it is fine."

'We could not find the next step'

Pep Guardiola has given his thoughts after Manchester City were convincingly beaten by Liverpool today.

He told Sky Sports: "We played very good. Maybe we missed more productivity in the shots but we played against a fantastic team. Maybe at the start it was 50-50 and we could not convert.

"Second half they defended very deep. We have done something we have not tried for many games which was we brought them to their box and tried to beat them there.

"The tactic was to arrive in the final third and the byline and it happened a lot but we did not score.

"We missed the next bit a little bit and with crosses it is almost impossible to do it because of their size. We could not find the next step."

Simple as that

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot reveals how his team masterminded what was a pretty routine win over the reigning Premier League champions.

"By scoring a set-piece," Slot responded when speaking to Sky Sports.

"If you want to win a big game you need a neutral set-piece balance or to score one and not concede. We kept them away from big chances because we made sure they didn't create as much as they normally do."

Slot added: "We as a group of people look at how the set-up is, and someone came up with a brilliant plan and we knew that space could be there. The deflection was so helpful because it wasn't as if we were dominating the game.

"The first half played out better for them than for us, apart from the score.

"I don't think they had too many big chance but it felt like they were going to score. A lot in the second half, I can't remember them having a big chance.

"Ideally, we have the ball more than the other team. But City when it comes to ball possession, they like it a lot and are so comfortable on the ball. The only chance you have to win here is to defend very well."

Later in the interview, Slot said: "Three days ago we had a draw at Villa and people told me we weren't in a good place and then three days later we win and it changes again.

"We work every single day to achieve this and it is three months of very hard work to maintain this.

"There is no secret. We are 11 points clear but Arsenal has one game in hand. The best attack we had didn't end in a goal.

"You always have to adapt to the challenge you have. A week ago we experienced how difficult Wolves at home was. They will always be difficult games, like today.

"It is easier for us to not get excited because we know what we have to put in. This result was more about defence than attack. It is normal for fanbases to be positive and it is important to understand why we are where we are."

Happy to sit back

Liverpool's Dominik Szoboszlai has also been speaking about the win and the away fans' title chants at full time.

The Hungarian told Sky Sports: "We played with two number 10s and they managed the game almost 90 per cent but at the end, the result is for us and we are happy to take the three points home.

"We were defending 30 metres from our goal and we gave everything. It is part of the game. Sometimes you don't have the ball and we are happy to take the three points."

On the Reds support chanting 'We're gonna win the league' at the Etihad, Szoboszlai continued: "I didn't hear it, I was so tired!

"We have to keep going and Newcastle is going to be a tough game and then 11 more games to go.

"It never ends so we have to keep calm and keep going and at the end hopefully, we will get there."

'We need another title'

Mohamed Salah has now reacted to the 2-0 win moving Liverpool 11 points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Salaha said: "It is incredible. It is a very hard place to come and play here.

"They are a tough team and they have an incredible manager I am glad in the end we won the game.

"It is special. Especially when you are in the title race, it is incredible.

"Hopefully we keep calm because sometimes the pressure gets to us. We try to win each game."

When asked about whether he is playing better than ever, he continued: "I don't know. It is opinion.

"Maybe people prefer my first seasons or now but I prefer now because winning the league, helping the young players, it is special.

"We need another title. Me and the big guys in the team, we need another title."

Pep's nemesis

Pep Guardiola must hate facing Mohamed Salah.

Salah has both the most goals (9) and most assists (6) of any player against Guardiola in his top-flight league managerial career.

Incredible stuff.

After today, the Egyptian is also the first player in Premier League history to score and assist in both games against the reigning champions in a single campaign.

That's just another of the many records that he's set today.

Done the double

Liverpool have just done the Premier League double over Manchester City for the first time since 2015-16.

Arne Slot has managed to do it in his first season in charge.

That 2015/16 double was coincidentally also achieved in Jurgen Klopp's first season in charge of the Reds.

It means Man City now trail Liverpool by 20 points.

That's the furthest they've been away from the top of the table at the end of a day since 14th July 2020.

Title race over?

It's full time at the Etihad!

Liverpool have cruised to a win against Manchester City.

They are now 11 POINTS clear at the top of the table.

Reds fans in the away end were chanting 'We're gonna win the league' as the whistle blew.

Is the title race done and dusted now?

Arsenal would like to think not, but after their loss yesterday, they have a mountain to climb to overtake them.

Simply brilliant from Arne Slot's side.

84' Abdukodir Khusanov makes a brilliant block.

Ruben Dias loses the ball in his own half and it leads to Liverpool breaking at pace yet again.

It comes to Mohamed Salah on the right who holds things up slightly before slotting in Dominik Szoboszlai.

Szoboszlai shoots but Ederson saves well from close range.

Man City 0-2 Liverpool

81' Another substitution at the Etihad.

Luis Diaz comes off for Cody Gakpo who has returned from injury to see out the rest of this game.

That change came after Mohamed Salah had a shot saved by Ederson after he moved past Joskov Gvardiol.

Salah continues to be a major threat on the break and Man City won't want to concede another goal.

Omar Marmoush, Nathan Ake and Nico Gonzalez are replaced.

73' Alisson is forced into another save!

This time, it's a bit tougher than his previous stops.

A nice cross from Savinho bounces through the box to find Jeremy Doku at the back post.

He takes one touch and shoots but his effort isn't clean and it is drilled into the clutches of the goalkeeper.

Just over 15 minutes to go now.

70' It's all Man City at the moment.

They're having all the ball, just like they have for most of the game, but they just can't break through.

Liverpool have been superb at the back today.

Erling Haaland watches on as his side struggle to score.

He'd have made a difference if he was fit to feature.
