Liverpool beat Wolves but miss out on Premier League title

It's the hope that kills you. Liverpool fans must have been in dreamland when they heard that Manchester City were 2-0 down at home to Aston Villa, with Jurgen Klopp's side needing a goal against Wolverhampton Wanderers to become Premier League champions as things stood, but Pep Guardiola's charges came back to secure a memorable 3-2 victory.

Liverpool, meanwhile, came back from 1-0 down to beat Wolves 3-1, but ultimately it was not enough. In the end, it proved to be more of a warm-up for their Champions League final against Real Madrid next weekend.

Pedro Neto shocked the crowd at Anfield when he put Wolves ahead inside three minutes, a goal that was also celebrated by City's fans at the Etihad Stadium, but Liverpool managed to pull a goal back through Sadio Mane in the 24th minute.

In the last 10 minutes, once it was known that City were 3-2 ahead against Villa, Liverpool grabbed two goals through Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson to make sure of the three points.

This win means that Liverpool end the 2021/22 Premier League season with 92 points accrued, one less than City. At least they still have the chance to win the treble, as they could add the Champions League crown to their Carabao Cup and FA Cup triumphs.
