Liverpool and Chelsea on red alert as Coman tipped to leave Bayern Munich

Liverpool and Chelsea are on red alert as transfer target Kingsley Coman has been tipped to leave Bayern Munich by the club's ex-sporting director.

The Premier League pair were linked with the winger during the summer transfer window but the Reds and Blues were both said to be put off by Bayern's asking price, reportedly £86million.

Coman, who has recently undergone minor heart surgery, has a contract at the Allianz Arena until 2023 but has often discussed his desire to feel more appreciated at the German giants, or else he will seek pastures new.

At 24, the France international has won a league title in every season of his senior career but had struggled to consistently nail down a spot at club level, whether that be at Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus or in Munich.

Christian Nerlinger recently spoke to German outlet BILD TV and was asked about Coman's future, with speculation continuing to take up column inches in Bavaria.

"I don't think he will stay in Munich. Bayern had a recent tendency to lose players for free," Nerlinger stated.

"But you can't do that in the long run, you have to sell players from time to time if the offer is right.

"Coman is an excellent player, but given the situation, I think Bayern will consider selling him."

Having made one start and three further substitute appearances for the Bundesliga champions this season, the Frenchman is set to be out until October due to discovering a minor cardiac arrhythmia, which had seen him struggle with a shortness of breath.

Manager Julian Nagelsmann revealed at a press conference before his side's 7-0 victory over Bochum on Saturday: "'King' had an operation yesterday, he had a minor heart rhythm disturbance. I'll explain that with my little medical expertise.

"There are two strands that activate the sinus node. One of them was cut off so that there would be no additional blow. Sometimes he had less air for a short time and was less productive," he explained.

"That's why we did a long-term ECG [electrocardiogram] and found something that could be fixed quickly."

The Bayern boss' comments suggest that Coman, who memorably scored the winner in the 2020 Champions League final against ex-employers PSG, will be back on the pitch soon.

"He'll start cardio on Tuesday," Nagelsmann added. "It won't take much longer than a week and a half or two before he's back in team training."

The German tactician, who took the reins at the Allianz Arena this summer after leaving RB Leipzig, stated: "It sounds much more dramatic than it is. He is doing very well, he has minimal wound pain.

"It's not so blatant, several people have that, but it makes a difference whether my greatest effort is to go to the refrigerator and get a cool light beer - or whether I'm a competitive athlete."
