Liverpool accept Mayor's victory parade offer - regardless of quadruple outcome

Liverpool are aiming to add the Premier League and Champions League trophies to their haul having already secured EFL Cup and FA Cup glory during a sparkling season

Liverpool will celebrate their successful season with a victory parade through the city in late May - even if they fall short in the Premier League and the Champions League.

The Reds have already claimed two major honours this season by defeating Chelsea on penalties in February's EFL Cup final and the FA Cup final on Saturday. Remarkably, they may yet double their trophy haul as an unprecedented quadruple is still a possibility.

Standing in-between Liverpool and a historic achievement are Manchester City and Real Madrid. City will need to drop points against Aston Villa for Jurgen Klopp's side to have any chance of winning the top flight on Sunday, six days before their European showdown with Los Blancos at the Stade de France.

Preparations for a parade to recognise a brilliant campaign have been underway for some weeks and the club have decided to press forward with plans. A team bus will begin to travel through the city streets at 4pm on Sunday May 29, the day after the Champions League final.

As the Reds clinched the FA Women's Championship, Liverpool Women will also take part in the parade, which will be fully paid for by the club. The route is the same 13.5km one which attracted an estimated 750,000 people after Klopp and Co. triumphed in a 2019 Champions League showdown against Tottenham, starting at Allerton Maze and ending at Blundell Street.

How many trophies will Liverpool end the season with? Have your say in the comments!

May 29 is the anniversary of the Heysel Stadium disaster, so Liverpool, supported by the local council, will pay tribute to the 39 fans who lost their lives on the morning ahead of the parade.

The Reds confirmed their plans on Thursday morning and Joanne Anderson, the Mayor of Liverpool, said: "We're delighted that we can now confirm the club will definitely parade around the city on May 29 - and I'm pleased we will be celebrating the achievements of both the men and women's teams. A huge amount of work goes on behind the scenes in preparation for an event of this size and scale, so it's fantastic that the city is now going to be able to experience this.

"Lifting the FA Cup, the Carabao Cup and the FA Women's Championship trophy is an incredible achievement that deserves to be acknowledged and we have everything crossed that they won't be the only trophies they are lifting on the day! Whatever the outcome of the end of the season and the Champions League final, Liverpool FC and Liverpool FC Women have already done us proud, and we will give both teams the homecoming celebration they deserve."
